Apologies if there's already a thread on this, but I couldn't find anything.

IP-24 has qualified for early turn-in and filed 120,000 signatures. With more than a month still to go before the final deadline, it's looking a sure bet to make the ballot in November.

CSLE Files Over 120,000 Signatures to Qualify for Early Turn-In | Citizens For Sensible Law Enforcement

If passed, a new section would be added to the state constitution:

Section 46. Applicability of state laws and penalties to the private personal use, possession and production of marijuana; exceptions; state may regulate. Except for actions that endanger minors or public safety, neither the criminal offenses and sanctions nor the laws of civil seizure and forfeiture of this state shall apply to the private personal use, possession or production of marijuana by adults 21 years of age and older. The State may enact laws and regulations consistent with this amendment to reasonably define, limit and regulate the use, possession, production, sale or taxation of marijuana under state law. To allow the State time to enact laws and regulations consistent with this amendment, this amendment shall become effective in the normal course but shall not become operational until six months after its effective date.

As far as I know, the amendment would go hand in hand with OCTA (http://forum.grassci...act-2012-a.html), which has a good chance of making the ballot.

I thought OCTA already failed for 2012 and was focusing on 2014 already.... but regardless, IP-24 still makes me happy. I haven't even smoked in 6 months now, but I'm looking forward to coming out of college and having a few states to choose from that are open-minded.

OCTA is still picking up signatures as far as I know... I think it's got around 100k which means it's got a solid shot.

Yeah, I definitely got confused there. Googled it right after I posted that (googling it before would've made way too much sense), you're right. Hope it passes, looks like it's doing well.
Thanks for the post, you stay classy.

fuck this bill. octa all ready addresses the issue in it. it is nothing more then a scam to try and draw votes away from octa.

So having having another layer of legislation (in the constitution no less) protecting cannabis use and cultivation in the state is a "scam"?

How exactly does it steal votes? They both need to gather the required petitions. Someone isn't going to not sign one of the petitions because they signed the other. They just sign both! And if both get on the ballot then people can vote yes for both. If anything, having two marijuana related initiatives on the ballot at the same time might give someone pause to think, "Hey, two separate initiatives managed to make it on the same ballot in the same election cycle in the same state? Maybe there's something to this whole MJ thing after all."

Also a quote from this article: Oregon's Second Marijuana Legalization Initiative Gathering Sigs - Toke of the Town

"While having both initiatives on the November ballot could cause some voter confusion, they aren't in conflict. If both pass, one will strengthen the other, with IP 24's constitutional authority adding weight to OCTA 2012's regulatory structure."

Well put. I hope the people behind both initiatives are going out of their way to make sure this kind of ignorance is kept to a minimum.
