I haven't been smoking weed for very long, about half a year, but when I first tried weed, I felt no different than before. This continued for a while and I could never get high. I didn't see what was so great about weed.
Now I love it! Here's some important tips to getting high and enjoying your weed: (keep in mind this thread is mainly for beginners, and you may/may not agree with my opinions, but anyone can feel free to add their own tips too.)
  • Have a nicely rolled joint. It's easy to tell the difference between a sloppy joint and a good one.
  • Have music - whether it's earphones when you're outside, or speakers when you're home, music makes it much more enjoyable, especially if you're on your own.
  • IMPORTANT! - RELAX. A big part of getting high is in your mind and it's important to have positive thoughts and not to worry about getting caught or anything like that. If it's your first time smoking, don't be thinking "I'm still not feeling anything" or "This doesn't feel any different". Just think POSITIVE and enjoy!
  • Be with a group of friends you trust and preferably in a calm environment without a lot of noise. This point isn't necessary but I just enjoy it more that way. I don't like smoking weed when there are too many people (unless they are getting high too) or if there's drunk people screaming
  • FOOD, DRINK, COMFY CHAIR! - Again, not too important, but when you first start smoking weed, you may get the "munchies". I don't get it as much anymore, but food still tastes so much better when stoned. Also a nice couch to sit on is a good idea. However, sometimes, depending on what strain you have, you might want to do something fun rather than flaking out.
  • If the weather is nice, I like to get a friend or two out and smoke out on field in the sun.
  • KNOW YOUR LIMIT - Smoking too much feels horrible. People usually call it a "greener" or something similar. Some effects are cotton mouth, going pale/green, not wanting to move anywhere, not bothered to talk, and basically just feeling like shit. Don't try to smoke loads just to try and be "cool". Stop smoking when you feel like you've had enough. "Just smoke until your at a level of bakedness that your comfortable with." - Dawq902
    Half a joint is usually fine for me, then I let any others who are with me two-toke it. If you're on your own or just don't want to give any weed away, just put the joint out when you've had enough and keep it for later.
  • FINALLY - There are no set rules for getting high, these are just what I like to do. Don't think about all these points too much when smoking. Just enjoy the moment.

Pretty sure, 'learn how to inhale properly' is in there, otherwise youre literally burning money.

My only problem is that you said when you first start you may get the munchies..

I've had the munchies for 4 years man :P

P.S. Smoke till you drop if you're just starting. You're never gonna get that high again so go hard. :)

Don't be afraid to "pass" your turn if you're smoking with a group. When I first started, I'd often times smoke too much just because the bowl kept cycling around.

I used to be like that, but I don't even think about it anymore. Just think about the moment as you're smoking and enjoy.

-Make sure you inhale properly. Many people, myself included, will have never smoked before their first time smoking marijuana, or at least never inhaled. Figure out how to inhale then you will feel the high.
-I have never "greened out" and I have smoked a shit ton, so I don't think you can get like that too easily.
-Always buy from people you trust.
-Eat before smoking or after you've fulfilled munchies, smoke more. I have gotten used to not eating when I have the munchies as it is a buzzkill. Though sometimes I smoke just to be able to taste that delicious food.
-Just have fun. The little things in life are amazing, sometimes watching comedy or just chilling is as fun as trying to find stuff to do. Especially if you know what type of weed you're smoking.

Make sure you have a drink! I can't count how many times I got cotton mouth and regretted not being able to sip on something.

Yeah duh. Out of million threads and half a million members, no one in the history of this forum has ever come up with general suggestions/opinions about weed so groundbreaking. lol

If it's going to be a night of alcohol and weed, make sure u drink first and then smoke, doing it the other way around will probably make u puke and feel super-dizzy by the end of the night.

On the contrary my friend, sometimes smoking after you drink only intensifies your buzz and the room spins a lot faster than it was before.

drinking before i smoke gives me the spins and for me its unpleasant.. drinking after i smoke works well, it satiates the cotton mouth and reduces my anxiety
