  10. No such thing as too metal. All metal is metal. There's just more Black Metal, Tech Death and Thrash fans itt compared to the amount of Metalcore, Deathcore, Hardcore and Melodic death fans itt. I am a fan of it all.

The only album I've listened to from them is The Always Open Mouth, and I like it well enough. Sounds like it's the same vocalist on this ^ album, so maybe it's just the recording/mixing/mastering/whatever... but the vocals here really bug me. Too distracting and overwhelming, I think. Or maybe it's just the poopy youtube quality.

I post a lot of borderline metal stuff, I guess, but here's another (or did I already post this? I don't know). I just picked up a few albums and this was the first one I decided to put on. Solid instrumental post-rock/metal.

  12. Core isn't Metal. It's Core which derived from punk.

  13. Very true, but these days the progression of core genres have drawn a vague grey area which has more metal influence than punk influence in it. I am not really a fan of deathcore but I wouldn't hesitate to say that it is much more metal than punk with the exception of those new age deathcore bands that only play bad breakdowns. Although I do hate how the term hardcore has come to refer to a genre that vaguely resembles what hardcore is supposed to be.

  14. I was honestly being a little tongue in cheek when I first commented.

I really don't see the point of all these subgenres, though. I wish we used adjectives or at least more descriptive language than "sludge," "doom," "black," and "thrash." Then again, I agree that they're a necessary evil.

Anyways speaking of evil. Jamming to this again tonight.  :confused_2:

Sub genres have both advantages and drawbacks. Sometimes they are completely arbitrary and can lead to some confusion on agreeing upon a definition for a term; good examples are trying to find a difference between atmospheric black metal and ambient black metal or war metal versus bestial black metal or even stoner metal versus doom/sludge. At that point it is almost impossible to tell the difference in sound and the only dividing factors become lyrical themes or even where the band is from; I've got a friend who makes sure to differentiate his death metal based on where it was from haha.

Anyways the up side to this is that when you look at less broad terms like death, black, thrash, etc it helps you understand what to expect before you listen to it. For example there is nothing wrong with calling Aura Noir a thrash band but thrash can mean anything from Megadeth to Skeletonwitch to Celtic Frost so it helps to call Aura Noir a Black/Thrash band to pinpoint their style a little better than just being called thrash.

    Filthy sounding black metal.
