Can anyone recommend any good ones? Romance, death, something with intensity

A song of ice and fire, it's a bit pedestrian and bloated but it's got everything you're looking for. Incest too.

@VikingToker - that shit made me el oh el but please do not compare that piece of shit show to the actual 'Sword of Truth' Series. It's a great bunch of books. However, like most fantasy series, in my opinion, the first 4-5 books are good thennn not so much.

You really ought to read A Song of Fire and Ice. I know you mentioned you are watching the HBO series, but there are a lot of things that happen in the books that aren't shown in the series. Tyrion's inner dialogue in particular is absolutely priceless. Also, the series is only covering one book a season. They are in A Clash of Kings (book 2) right now, but they won't get into A Storm of Swords until April 2013 and A Feast of Crows until a year after that. That's assuming they renew it for a fourth season too.

The story is mostly the same in the show as it is in the books with a few events being changed or left out but nothing completely story changing so far. You could finish watching season 2 and then pick up book three if you wanted. Also, despite having read the books, it's still pretty amazing to see some of those fantastical locations being realized into reality in the show. The Wall is amazing, for example. Just a suggestion.

I heard they're ending the current series with the red wedding. Afraid they'll be cancelled.

Really? Where did you hear that? I hope that isn't true. I know season 3 was confirmed and the show is doing pretty well, as far as I know.

I can't remember now sorry. It's a legit concern though, it's only going to get more expensive to make the show. Look what happened to Rome.

That is true. A lot of the press leading up to the season 2 premier boasted about how much more money went into creating some of these massive battles that are coming up in the story. They got around that in season one with the classic trick of only showing the beginning of a battle and the end result (ie bodies everywhere and random smoldering things) but they aren't going to be able to get away with that for much longer.

I was at a comic con last weekend and some folks were talking about "Emotobooks" I was like, whats this all about!? Did some research and found their site on Google. Looks pretty interesting so far. New medium of fiction caught my eye. They have a title called "Grit City" You might be interested in it. Seems like something you are looking for. I saw they had a Horror one so I snagged that. Will let ya guys know how it goes!

well, that's the TV series based on the book series but it kinda sucks. they changed so much and jumbled up the story more than any other book adaptation i've ever seen.

books are great though

Are you looking for typical sword&sorcery fantasy? Or are you interested in a bit of urban fantasy?
Sword of Truth is a pretty popular and good series, I really liked the first book but then my interest dropped.
I've heard plenty of fantastic things about The Dwarves, but haven't read that yet.
R.A. Salvatore's pretty sweet read, but it doesn't get as dark as I enjoy my fantasy to be.

Also, some urban fantasy to knock your socks off: American Gods. I freaking gobbled that up in days. So good. I need to read it again!

I read a lot, but after a while I forget which books to recommend to people. If I think of anything else, I'll add them on!

Urban fantasy is cool too, what's this American Gods thing? My favorite book series ever is urban fantasy about vampire gangs in Manhattan, this noir style series called the Joe Pitt series by Charlie Huston.

I've heard about RA Salvatore, doesn't he write all the DnD books? I'm kinda more interested in gritty swordfight, sex and sorcery stuff tbh

Ok, well, American Gods' is one of Neil Gaiman's masterpieces (and seriously, this guy is like a literary rock star). It's a stand alone novel, about a guy trapped in this epic cosmic war. I can't tell you much more but it's so good. :3

There's also anasi boys which is sort of linked to AG. I'm really looking forward to the sequel and the HBO adaptation though. Unfortunately Neil's ability to think of amazing characters and plots outweighs his ability to turn them into prose. Which is part of the reason the sandman is so good.
