clone-only strains- why not make feminized seeds?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by lawschool2012, Apr 20, 2012.

  1. why is it that you always here of strains being clones only? why not add colloidal silver to one of the females and take the pollen created and pollinate another female of the same strain? then you have feminized seeds of a "clone only" strain. people on here and other sites are always stating that this or that strain is clone only. I'm sure there has to be people creating femmed seeds.

forgive me if this has been covered on GC; I haven't found a thread speaking of such a thing.

  2. cause S1s are not as easy to do in real life, as they are on paper.

and yes this has been covered in the breeding secion ( and everywhere else here @GC every fucking time a noob gets a hermie.)

EDIT : kinda sounds harsh , but not directed @ you.

IMO...only folks who dont have clone access use seeds...clones are cheaper...guaranteed female and you're a month ahead of the game....obviously breeders are exempt..some say seeds produce a more potent plant..in some cases im sure that's true..and as stated its not that simple.....thats why those people are called breeders..and who wants pollen in their growing area...that shit has a 5mile travel distance...

  4. The problem with clones from my view is their tendency to set fflower in theoutdoors. I cant plant clones until may 15 if i dont want them to flower while i can plant seed plants in late april. I get much more yield from seeds.

Some plants wont reverse,. You wont ever see a femmed C99 becasue the plant wont reverse. It hermies or it dies, but it just wont produce a few male flowers.

  7. I see that as an advantage. Think how easy it is to make 20 or so clones over winter and put them outdoors for 6 weeks in spring. Then do your usual for the main season.

  8. Spring flowering is a real disappointment in most cases. Deformed flowers, lots of leaf because the plants don't know if they're comin or goin... low potency for the same reasons... But I suppose if you're in the right location it could work.. I know it doesn't work here at 43 deg. latitude N.

I find that clones don't have the 'vigor' that plants from seed do. They just all in all tend to grow slower! Plants from seed tend to have that amazing quick growth spurts during the first few months where they can really take off and have those huge dark shiny fan leaves and fat fat stems.. You guys know what I'm talking about for sure.. And you just don't get it with clones.

  9. agreed

    totally untrue ..

and to prove it let em ask you this .. why are commercial growers not ordering in seeds every grow?

you get just as good with clones IME.

  10. Really? I always thought my plants outdoors from seed grew more vigorously than my clones.. meaning they bust out big ass fan leaves and thick ass stems while the clones just put out small to medium sized leaves on medium stems... just never seemed to have that seedling vigor.. Maybe it's just my imagination!!

Commercial growers use clones for some very obvious reasons.. males, herms, uniform plant structure and bud times and fert tolerances.. etc.
Even if hypothetically plants from seed grew 25% faster than clones, I think commercial growers would still choose clones.

That's only if the clones aren't rooted well or are slow growing strains. This purple diesel plant is a clone and growing like a beast. It and my other clones are way outgrowing my seedlings all started around the same time. Clones are awesome because they don't have as much stretch as seeds and can be flowered whenever you want!

  13. it's your imagination. no to be rude.

no to mention clones do not have to wait 45-60 days to mature, just to be old enough to flower.

LOLs at leaf comparisons. pull that shit indoors and come back and brag..but a 13 inch leaf outdoors is pretty common IME.

  14. I started spraying the silver on a few branches.. they look to be female. Never done it before so not sure if they are gonna show signs of a female and then grow pollen sacks or I just messed them up..I used 30ppm silver. Sprayed from day one when I moved into flower. Any help would be great. I orders some autoflower seeds and want to be able to get some seeds from them..

  15. S1s are not genfically identical to their clone parent. You still have to go back, make selections, and isolate the desired phenotype(s). For plants that are that 1 in a 1000 oddball, its still a ton of work.
