Florida grow under the sun!

1. Hey all! This is (as the title suggests) my first grow and I decided to grow outdoors "gorilla" style. This is one of my first posts on grasscity as well and would just like to say thanks for all the wonderful information that is on this site! So without further to do; let's get down to business.

I am growing 10x afghanis for this season as well as a female super silver seed? I'm not exactly sure what the last seed is but a friend of mine gave it to me and a free seed is a free seed. I started my grow about 4 days ago to celebrate the week of 4/20 and everything seems to be going smoothly. I started with the paper towel + water medium and got 11/11 to sprout the tap root. Yesterday the 17th of april I planted and as I said there is already a few of them above the ground.

I am currently in the process of setting up my grow spot and I have a few questions xD

1. All of the areas I've found were either sandy or swamp so I chose the more sandy environment knowing that the drainage would be better. However I am worried that it will drain too well and dry out my beautiful girls even with the added soil I plan on throwing in there. So my question really is has anyone had any experience in growing in a more sandy based soil with success? If not I can just buy more bags of soil (I plan on mixing the nute rich soil with the sandy soil) as soil is pretty cheap and I'm not looking for top of the line stuff.

2. I was also wondering if tying down the top of your girl to the ground to control how tall the plant grows will hurt or hinder the plant too much? I was also wondering when to tie them down (vegetative state, the beginnings of the showing of sex or more into the flowering state?)

3. From what I have read and understand outdoor grows have a much higher potential to get much bigger and produce bigger buds. I am expecting a few ounces off of each plant (say a total of 2.5lbs if 50% are females). From your experience is it more or less in a much more hot/humid climate such as florida?

4. I know for a fact bud rot is a huge problem is florida so I was wondering if anyone used diluted hydorgen peroxide (or something else) during the middle of flowering to prevent bud rot?

Thanks for your time.

Oh ya!

PICS!!!!!

2. Subbed. Good luck! I can't wait to see how this turns out. Maybe ill get invited for a puff since i subscribed first!

3. not sure about the bud rot issue but your most likely right. the florida showers could potentially rot the hell out of your bud lol. as far as tying down the plant goes, im pretty sure your referring to LST - low stress training. look it up there should be a lot of info on it and its done throughout the grow i believe

4. cool thanks. Yeah I can't let them get more than 6 feet tall. They are mostly indica but its outdoors and you can never be too careful :)

Here are some more pics. I'm putting them in the ground in a few days. gonna let the main stem get stronger first though.:hello:

5. Looking good!

I'm curious about how damp the area where you put them will be. Your plants are about at the same stage as mine right now, and I'll be putting them in a pretty damp area myself.

6. well more or less by accident i'm in a more sandy area which means really fast draining. However I am using pvc about 2 feet into the ground and when it gets dry here for more than a few days i'll be watering on top of the plants and into that pvc pipe. I should also mention that the pvc is sealed off at the bottom save a whole about a half inch in diameter. If the area is wet as in will stay wet even though it hasn't rained in a week you might have a problem with root rot. As rough as it sounds i'd make slightly elevated beds for where you intend to plant and dig small trenches on either side to help alleviate all of that water from your roots.

I'm just as clueless as to harvest time and dampness but I'll be talking to a pretty fucking boss gorilla grower come next month so i'll ask him a few questions about drainage and how to avoid bud rot here in florida.

7. they grow up so fast <3

central. Lots of sandy places surprisingly enough.

haha :p thats cause you aren't native to florida. They are pretty much harmless unless you stick your hand in their face. They won't even bite you if they are crawling on you (unless you smack them and miss) Just don't piss 'em off and you're fine. I'm personally more worried about banana spiders, rattle snakes, gators, bears and then the dear eating my babies. Also the occasional florida panther is a pretty cool sight. The only real danger in the high summer heat are gators (near the water) and rattle snakes because its so damn hot they can run marathons from all the energy they get.

13. Florida Panther??? Fuck that shit. I would like to keep my head on my body thank you very much.

14.
Wow, looking good! These are mine http://forum.grasscity.com/outdoor-grow-journals/1044585-outdoor-greenhouse-grow.html#post14612116
Dude, people will check out your grow more if you'd quite pushing it so much. It's a little over the top. You post this same comment in every thread and it comes across very in-genuine and quite frankly, rude. If you have a good grow and post often, or even a bad grow that you're humble about you'll get more attention than spamming peoples pages. At least take the time to comment about their grow before pushing yours.

I'm always happy to show off pics of my ladies but I do it at appropriate times and take the time to interact with people too. Follow our examples and do the same....

15. ^ Lol, bubble buster.

Any updates OP?

16. Say whatever you want, wasn't trying to push anything. As I said to others I'm new, didn't know how to share in signature. I had been on for a grand total of 4 days. People reporting without saying anything eventually got the point across. Relax people.

I'm not upset or reporting you for anything. I don't think you did anything worthy of being reported that I know of. I was just letting you know how it came across. I hope you stick around GC and make lots of friends. The way I've made friends here is by taking the time to get to know people, commenting on their grows, and posing my own. It takes more than 4 days to make a spot here and I don't want you to burn bridges before you even get started. I'm a lot more relaxed than a lot of the members, trust me on that, lol. But there are some really awesome people here too.

18. Understandable, I was just annoyed that I was contacted by a moderator saying something like 8 people reported me (without saying anything to me). But it's all in the past, was just trying to show some love for a fellow grower. In fact, this is my first time growing from seed and my seedlings looked similar to these. I had one that the stem leaned all the way out of the cup. I thought something was going to be wrong with it, but after I propped it upright with a stick it's looking very good

Yeah I wouldnt have been very happy either. I'm sorry if I called you out at the same time as all that was going on. It wasn't meant as a group attack. Anyway, I'm glad to get to know you a little more. And good luck on the first grow!
