Ayron's Stab at organics :P

Hey everyone! this is my third journal i think but the first one in the organic section. I started growing a little over a year ago with under 200w of cfl's using bottled chemical nutes, and now im using a 400w HPS and learning the organic route. I live in florida so the growing conditions are amazing outside so i dont bother to waste electricity starting them inside I'm super new to organics and would love friendly advice to help me improve my methods

Lights: 400w HPS (starting plants outdoors) and indoors is a 3 foot tall, 3 foot wide and 18 inch deep box with an aircooled hood resting on top of a hole cut in for the light. so i have 3 feet from floor to ceiling. this box is in my closet
Nutes: Indonesian and jamacian bat guano, and peruvian seabird guano for now. I mix it in a bucket with an airstone and let it bubble for a few days before i water
Medium: I make my own with GH cocotek bricks mixed in with sphagnum peat moss and some perilite. I'm using 1, 2, and 3 gallon smart pots for these
Plants: I have some bag seed that i plan on harvesting this week as well as a fast neville plant that will be ready in another two weeks or so. I also have 3 more fast nevilles and a connie chung or two out back that are almost done flowering too.

Welcome to organics. I am curious about something.

How are you growing organically without any compost/humus/worm castings? It is very difficult to have an organic garden without any. You MUST have a living soil to to be successful in organic gardening. If not it will be very difficult for your plants to take up nutrients. When you were growing with chemicals there were chelate's in your nutrients that made the plants food instantly accessible. In organic gardening you need a living (microbes) soil to break down the nutrients in order for your plants to access the nutrients at the rate they need to.

I highly recommend taking the time to read the stickies in the organic gardening section before starting your next grow. I also reccomend you check out as many organic grow journals as you can. Maybe you can find a style to adopt to your growing needs. Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are many of good folks here in the organics section that will be happy to get you off on the right foot.

I realize you are getting a lot of compliments on your garden and you are probably thinking, "WTF is this guy talking about I got some good bud.", but IMHO your plants should not finish in that poor of condition. Another words I believe/know you can do better.

You asked for advice so I thought I would start there. There are other things I would change aswell but I don't want to bombard you on your first post. I Hope I did not piss you off it is not my intention. My only motive is to help you have a better organic garden. Have a great day.

...if I were you, I would add some dolomite lime and EWC (earth worm castings) to your soil mix....mix the guanos/ewc/lime into the soil and let them break down a couple months before you use. Good luck.

I think your plants look just fine for how close they are to the chop, fan leaves should be depleted of nutes and dying, exactly how yours look...keep it up dude

thanks for the comments and advice guys! i'll have to look into getting some compost somewhere, i've been planning on making my own but i know that takes some time to get started. I've read through the stickies a few times but i dont understand everything lol. I plan on hitting the hydrostore on the way home to see what they got to offer, the staff there is really knowledgeable too.

also dont worry about offending me when offering advice, i know i dont know a lot about organics and im sure im doing more than one thing wrong lol

DUDE!!!! can i say HOLY SHITTTT those are nice!!! my Big Devil is starting to slowly do what your purple baby is doing.... but wow man, that is some really, REALLY nice looking nuggets!!!! very impressed man +rep for sure!!! cant wait to stick around and see the gorgeous harvest

If you wanna go 100% organic and dont know shit yet about composts and stuff do what i did, bought a GO Box from General Organics, i use the nute chart from the box and i gotta say... FUCKIN WOW! My babies are goin faster than they used to on last grows using hydroponics and ot was just like 40dls for the GO box

this is why i posted my journal in the organics section cause i noticed people here seem to know what they are talking about more and are nice when they present it I know my plants arent in the best condition and they started looking hungry about halfway through flowering. also i've had some aphid attacks that im fighting right now due to bringing a plant in from outside and not watching it close enough. i bought some alaska humus today and my hydrostore will have worm castings back in stock next week so i plan on getting some of those too. what else would you change?

Buds look nice. Dense and frosty. I'm not sure how much reading you've done in the organics section but here's one that should be required reading. I would suggest neem cake, kelp meal, and crab meal. If you can't source those right away look for some Espoma organic fertilizer. A couple of their "tone" mixes will work well. I use either the garden tone or tomato tone.

All of these growers have shown results that are to my liking. Be careful of whom and what you listen to. I find many folks spew from the mouth but show no results or when you look at their journals shit just isn't right. For me to listen to anyone you need to show me that what you are advising me to do works and it is not something you just read and are regurgitating."THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING"

I am sorry if this post is not what you are looking for but I refuse to push or recommend any one particular grow style. You need to decide what will work best for you. If you make your own decisions verses doing what I tell you, believe me you will have a better sense of pride when you get it right.
