Glycerin Cannabis Tincture recipe

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by topcheesehead, Feb 22, 2012.

  1. I thought I would document my Glycerin Cannabis Tincture journey for everyone so if someone wanted to make it, they could.

First off, why Glycerin? Glycerin actually can absorb under the tongue while alcohol tinctures do not. Using glycerin will results in a faster absorption of THC if its held under the tongue for a minute or two, then swallowed.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    MATERIALS (the ones i used)
-Crock pot (set to low or keep warm setting)
    - eye dropper (found at walmart by the visine in the health area)
-a Jar with 4 holes poked in the lid
-storage jar. preferably the size of the amount of glycerin

-1/8th of high grade bud (it can be low grade or high. it would just be less potent) -lemon extract flavoring (use any flavor you want, i used lemon cuz my stuff was lemony/citrus smelling)
-4 oz of glycerin (i used cake icing glycerin, found in the cake making isle of craft stores, mine was at joann fabrics, vegetable glycerine works too.)
    -lastly, water and time...

note: a good ratio is 1 gram of bud to 1 oz of glycerine.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    DIRECTIONS

step 1: grind the 1/8th of bud and place it in the jar.
step 2: add the 4 ounces of glycerin on top of the bud in the jar
step 3: add a teaspoon of flavoring extract on top of mixture and mix it (optional)
step 4: mix with spoon or shake if you have a lid with out holes in it.
step 5: put the jar with the mixture in the crock pot.
step 6: cover the jar with the lid with holes in it.
step 7: fill crock pot with water to the level of the glycerin in the jar.
step 8: cover the crock pot with crock pot lid.
step 9: make it sit for a minimum of 15 hours on the low setting.
step 10: stir the mixture at least 4 times during the process. A lot more if possible.
step 11: in the last 30 minutes of the cycle, add more flavoring extract until the
desired flavor is achieved. strong or weak. you decided. don't taste it hot.
step 12: strain through cheese cloth or metal coffee filter into a storage jar.
step 13: store the jar somewhere dark and out of the sunlight.
OPTIONAL STEP: let jar sit for a few days somewhere warm and dark.
step 14: use the eye dropper and test your creation once it has cooled to room
    temp.

note: if you used high grade bud, try 3 drops as a max the first time to test the potency. double it if its weak.wait 30 minutes. Be sure to keep it under the tongue for at at least one minute. sloshing it around under your tongue helps too.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
I am currently in the cooking portion of the recipe and I will report back in 24 ish hours to tell you if i succeed and how strong it is. on a side note the bud used was high grade medical. so this may turn out strong.

also i compiled this recipe from a few places. compiled by me but the credit goes to many people.

  2. ... so howd this work out??

  3. Wow, pretty much the same as MY recipe...click link in sig

Yea pretty much the same thing. OP has a good idea with the jar in the crockpot though. That is if you have a large crockpot but only want to
    make a small amount.

  5. Now, can I use is to vape?

  6. what I dont get is, aint this about the same method as making cocconut oil extract. Just seems alot more potent. Not sure why. The budder I make gets me stoned but I dont think a few drops of it would do anything. I mean, why not use this for cookies and get a thousand times the potency. I never made the oil extract but I never heard of it getting someone high with a few drops. what gives? What am I missing here?

    This thread was dead but...

If you can't smoke or can't eat a cookie because of digestive issues or you just don't want to do either than a few drops that gets you high is the way to go. Plus if I'm not mistaken it works quicker than edibles.

  8. Guy must have died.... Didnt report vack... maybe ill pass...

  9. Yes it does work quicker than edibles. 15 minutes as compared to 45-1.5 hr. I did not consider a couple months as a dead thread sorry, furthermore you did not even come close to answering my question. thanks for the reply though.

  10. There is a process doing exactly what you're asking. It's called a solvent transfer from an alcohol extraction into butter, oil, honey and such. While the alcohol tincture is dosed in drops, that is for a fast absorb oral application. Dosing is different for edibles due to the path the thc travels to get digested. However, by making your butter and oil for edibles using the transfer, you do get many more doses from it. There is a further explanation at the link in my signature. If you're really curious, check it out.

  11. Thank you. throwin rep your way.

  12. I'm giving this a try with a little bud I had left. I adjusted the ratios for the material I had at hand so hopefully it works. I don't have any flavor can I add flavoring after it is done?

  13. yeah, no problem. Flavor is easy.:D

  14. ok. its cooking now my crock pot only lets me do 10 hours on low then switches to warm. hopefully i get up in the am in time before it switches to set it again. what happens if the water in the crock pot burns out. i have did food over night in the crockpot but never some thing with this little of liquid.

  15. Put the crockpot on warm or turn it off overnight. The glycerin stays warm enough and you can start again in the morning.

I just saw this now once I woke up I came out and checked it there is still water in the pot and it is still going. Doesn't smell like cooking bud untill I open the crock pot. Now to find the metal coffee filter since I couldn't find cheesecloth last night at Walmart.

  17. At WalMart, the cheesecloth is located with the painting supplies.

  18. i mush have walked right past it. does walmart have little dropper bottles to?

  19. I've never seen the bottles there but they do have droppers in the pharmacy dept. You can get the dropper bottles at most health food stores for 2-3 bucks.:).

  20. Damn. Wal marts on the other side of town then the health food store.
