I have a dresser that I plan to turn into my flowering cabinet. I want to mount the light so that my exhaust, which is at the top of the cabinet, flows through the light to keep the heat out of the grow space. I made a quick diagram of my plans and I'd like some advice and help along the way.

I'll put up some pics of the actual cab in a little.

I also would like to know if I should make the ballast remote? I figured I should but then I thought that if I keep the fixture as a whole, the air flowing through it should keep the parts cool

Heres a pic of the fixture

More to come as I plan further :smoke:

Just read on the light that it should not come in contact with combustible surfaces. The way I have the cab drawn out, theres a plywood shelf that the light would be attached to. Now Im starting to think I should not divide the cabinet into two sections and just hang the reflector.

Thoughts?

Line it with something fire retardant. Your design here is pretty cool. Unless youre now uncomfortable with the idea then yeah hanging it would be fine. Im subbed.

I also had an idea for thermal protection. Is there any kind of device that I can set to a certain temperature and when the cabinet reaches that temp, it shuts the cab off. I'd like to have something like that to keep my cab from burning up. Theres always a possibility of the blower going out so I'd like to keep it safe.

Yeah, you can. I should probably look more into myself before I put my mylar on. But as for a device, yeah something like that exists. They have temperature gauges which can be set up with your power. Im gonna look more into it and post back.

Nice setup jcarter...did u get that light from lowes? I was thinking bout gettin 1 of those. Theyre about 70-80 bucks. Also i was thinking about a 150-250 watter from htg supply. Theyre only 70-117 bucks. U should look into 1 of those, that way youll have a peace of mind. Jmo. Im subbd for this 1.

I actually ordered this light from e-conolight.com for around $61 shipped

I would like to have a legit grow light one day but for now, I really dont have space for bigger lights/plants. One day when I do get one, I'll most likely get a 600W setup.

Ok that was a little more difficult than I thought. I could only find weird expensive shit, until I came across this weird little things. I wonder if you could wire up your whole power cord to one of these and stick this in the box, when it gets too hot it shuts off the power, or better idea, have it just shut off your light so your fan could keep cooling?

Thats perfect! I have no idea how to figure it out though. They have options that say close at 120F and open at 105F... I have no clue what that means, like if it gets to 120F it shuts off and when it cools to 105 it turns back on? I would want something that would trip and not turn back on automatically. unless I'm reading that wrong.

ugh those flood lights are a pain in the ass haha i had one and somehow it just went out and died after only 2 months so i bought a 150hps from htg for 60$ ( i believe your floodlight cost 45$)

btw if that light ends up going on and off constantly itll die alot quicker

So I have a question, Should i hang the whole fixture or just hang the reflector/socket while keeping the ballast outside the box? I dont really know where I would put the ballast if its not in the box so I'm a little unsure. The fixture itself is sealed so not sure if it would get too hot that way or not.

well remote ballast will make the whole thing cooler but i just hung mine up and at the time i only have pc fans and it seemed to work okay at around 85 (eh a little higher then i would have iked at the time. can we see pics of your fan/filter setup?
i stopped trying with pc fans a bought a stanley blower and did the mod, the stanley works amazingly at cooling my 150hps

I have a Detmar Marine Blower. Its 240CFM and powerful as shit so I will be connecting it to a rheostat. I dont have a filter yet but I will be making one.

And what 150W system do you have? Is it a flood like mine or a dedicated grow light?
