Unhappy Magic Exploding Bong

Hey friends. This is my first post here on Grasscity, and unfortunately it's not a happy one.

So, my bong broke today. I don't know how. All I know is that I went to my room to sleep off a headache, and thought that the room smelled like bong water. So I get up to check it out, and wouldn't ya know, my bong was leaking water like a mofo. I picked it up, and a large shard fell off of the side. Turns out there are fracture lines all over this thing now. Last time i used it, the thing seemed fine.

I can't figure out how it happened. It definitely didn't get knocked over or dropped. I typically don't bring it around anywhere, and haven't relocated since July of last year.

I hadn't changed the water for a couple weeks, because I'm lazy. Now my room smells awful, and I'm trying to Febreeze everything into submission.

Does anyone have any ideas why my poor bong broke?

Depends on the quality of your piece because in all honesty I've seen cheap pieces that are blown so thinly, with such weak ass joints, that the stress of setting them down to firmly can rupture the glass. Get what you pay for I guess, sorry to hear about the loss of a loved one regardless man. Get a 9mm to replace her!

Re: Magic Exploding Bong

Is it cheap china glass? Where did it break.

Some China tubes are not annealed properly, which is a critical process while blowing glass that is sometimes skipped over. This is why the fact of NOT buying China Glass is stressed by glass collectors.

If the tube was exposed to heat often in the area it broke that could be the cause.

Or if it's China glass, well I mean, that can explain its self.

I don't know where it was made, though I got the impression at the time I bought that it was made locally. It's a short straight-shooter with no extra chambers or bends or anything. It broke at the bottom/basin area. A big chunk fell out of the side of the basin as I was checking it out. I'm thinking it might have started as a stress fracture that grew over time because of temperature changes. It's got long, straight cracks from bottom right up to the mouthpiece. Looks like it wants to break into maybe 6 or 7 pieces. The glass looks fairly thick at the bottom, and it was definitely bottom-heavy, but the rest of the piece looks much thinner.

Yeah, I only payed about 60 bucks for the thing. I'm not a collector, just a casual user. It lasted for quite a long time (couple years now).

I think I'm gettin' a vape this time. I found a neat little contraption at a local store for about 80 bucks with a high/low/off switch. Seems like a pretty good deal.

Thanks for your input, guys. Happy toking!
