I'd opt for the glass on glass, just becuase I feel like glass is more healthy. Your downstem is plastic? wtf? The frosted glass on my bong always secures really tight, so there are no air leaks. I like it more then the rubber grommets edit: personally I'd spend the $15, if that helps answer your "is it worth it" lol |

| ![]() Yes, technically a full glass on glass piece will involve no rubber whatsoever. However, as Metalace so eloquently ignored, and you obviously already know since your friend had it done: You can convert a rubber grommet bong into a "half" GonG of sorts, where the connection between the bowl and stem is GonG but the stem is secured into the bong by a rubber grommet. To actually answer your question; If the bowl your friend got looked something like this: http://shop.grasscity.com/shop/grass...olbowlhur.html with the ground glass seal, then he's rockin' the half GonG setup. In my personal opinion, even a half GonG hits much better than a rubber grommet seal. If you're just looking to get a better hit without spending a wad of cash, like you said, then it sounds like a pretty fair deal. Why not try hitting your friends bong and see how you like it and if it's worth it to you?

Yeah you got my question EXACTLY. His downstem appeared to be thicker, and it was also frosted glass. It was still held in by the grommet. However, his bowl piece and downstem now connected with that frosted glass seal.... Thanks for answering so thoroughly! Im for sure going to go with that, if you say it hits better. As for my friends bong, he got caught up with his parents and they smashed said bong. Thanks everyone! Half GonG setup for me. | |

hm your storys kinda confusing but... it looks like your friend just got a thicker, sturdier downstem and bowl. its glass on glass if the bowlpiece and downstem are both ALL glass... your bong looks like the kind thats not glass on glass though. i know its got the grommet around the downstem, but does it have a small rubber ring around the stem of the bowlpiece? if it does then its not glass on glass

ok, im going to set the record straight on soft glass v. glass on glass.... the 2 bongs pictured above this post are soft glass, what they basically do is blow a vase, drill a hole in it, use a slightly smaller glass downstem and a rubber gromet to seal it, then the slide or bowl (both are techinally correct) slides inside the downstem somewhere between an 1 1/2 - 2 inches, the slides usually have a little o-ring on them to help seal the space between the downstem and slide.. Glass on glass is like the picture of that diffused downstem and slide posted above. these are typically hand blown to damn near exact inside and outside diameters, therefore eliminating the need for a rubber gromet. also on the tube or bong itself there typically is a part of it that has been drawn out so the downstem slides down into that.. glass on glass bongs are typically clear or transparent so you can see the smoke in the tube (hence a milkshot), gong pieces also let you customize your piece even more by the ability to add percs, diffusers, wider variety of ashcatchers, and an almost endless selection of slides... these are more expensive, and for most people they simply cant justify spending that kinda money.... softglass pieces are great first bongs, party bongs, or a bong for someone that's extremely clumsy.... i dont know of a single blower that can or will fix softglass pieces.. where as gong pieces can be fixed depending on where the piece is broke (joint, base, etc...) and you can get alot more creative work wise w/ glass on glass... most softglass pieces ive seen are either painted, sandblasted, frosted... very very rarely will you see a clear or even transparent softglass piece.. for the money you cant beat em w/ a stick.. |
