I love hemp wick. I wince when I think about using a lighter
I always buy the medium to large size spools, not the giant ball. And I always end up loosing the last foot or so, or the dog getting it. I haven't finished one in like a year and bought 4-5 in the last year

Plug the Hakko into a power strip with a switch and use that switch to turn the Hakko on/off
It's less expensive than the Herb iron...plus, when you're not using the Hakko, reassemble it to protect the ceramic element and voila! You have a perfect lighter AND a perfect soldering iron (in case you ever need one).
Advantages over hemp wick is that hemp wick is an open flame and thus gives off soot which will flavor the smoke. Yes, it's better than using a Bic, but it's nowhere near the greatness of a Hakko. A Hakko gives you COMPLETELY unadulterated tasting smoke!

Check out what a HAKKO is all about. It, specifically, is a soldering iron....with a dual-life as a lighter.

I wouldn't go with a hakko, just for safety reasons. I have a red herb iron, and it's one of the best investments I've made smoking wise. The new models come with a stand so you can set it down just about anywhere. It only gets hot, when you press the button and it takes all of 7-10 seconds to heat up. They also have a vape attachment now, glass, screws over the tip.

Could you compare it to hemp wick?

No...There's no comparison at all. The point is that either a Hakko or an HerbIron (or a glass rod) doesn't produce an open flame so, there's NO added pollution. A hemp wick produces an open flame -minus the butane pollution...but it still does produce some pollution all the same.
Alright I'm sold, I'll save up for one

I saw these bowls that look like they are made specifically for the herb iron or hakko, looks like its shaped for the ceramic cylinder.
That is exactly what they are, you lay the herb iron in the slits, and toke away lol.

Yeah I don't use concentrates often but I can't see myself heating glass rods every time I smoke, sounds luxurious though.

For concentrates you have to spend the time heating something, either a glass rod or a ti pad/nail.
But anyway, Herb Iron all day long it's not even a close call. But I keep a bit of ChillWick on my lighter just in case.
