Switching to other providers isn't a great solution either, because Viacom is just going to pull the same shit with those providers, because they know they can. The best solution is to back DirecTV because they're trying to stand up for keeping your bill from going up. They know that your bill going up is going to piss you off, so if you understand that you understand why they're not just bending over to Viacom. If anything, they should be asking for a lot smaller increase, or just charging their advertisers more. If their programming is worth it, the advertisers would pay up. Their channels are losing ratings, and a lot of their most popular shows can be watched online anyways. They really don't have any standing to be pulling this bullshit, so if you want Comedy Central then call Viacom and tell them to stop being so greedy.

Time Warner Cable is not available where I live, I live in the boonies. It's either DishTV or DirecTV.
Viacom is simply greedy; The channels have been shut down as midnight last night.

Viacom wants you to call DirecTV and complain, but it's Viacoms fault. They made DTV drop the channels (or face legal action) and all they want is more money.

Thank god for Cox.
lol
DirecTV gets support from Cox in fight with Viacom - latimes.com
"This is a reflection of an unbalanced multichannel video business model that has two major effects: continued significant increases in the cost of programming that are the main driver of rising cable and satellite TV service bills, and wide disparities between what large and small distributors pay for programming, resulting in similar disparities in what respective customers pay for service,"
If you think you're immune to Viacom's greed just because you're on another provider, you're fooling yourself. If DirecTV has to cave to Viacom, what makes you think Viacom wouldn't pull the same shit with Cox? They'll know they can make ridiculous demands, Cox and any other provider will have to cave just like DirecTV. Like I said, the best solution for most people is for Viacom to stop being greedy fucks.
In other news, Viacom has blocked their online streams of MTV and Comedy Central shows. Still think it's DirecTV being assholes??

Viacom is demanding 30% more $ for the same shit they've been providing, with dropping ratings to boot. DirecTV isn't going to just take a hit of a billion dollars, and they don't want to pass the cost on to customers either. It's Viacom being greedy and trying to bully DirecTV and, ultimately, the customers, into giving Viacom a 30% raise.
I don't see the problem.
Viacom deserves the raise for stressing Dave Chapelle into isolation, unleashing the low budget west coast shallow bullshit that is tosh.0, showing less stand up, showing replays of Van Wilder and Any American Pie movie everyday, profiting of the deaths of George Carlin and Patrice O'Neal after almost never showing their stand up, fucking up MTV in all ways possible and then finaly killing it by adding more reality bullshit.
Oh and the Roasts. Those roasts changed my perceptions of comedy and serve as an avant garde for talk shows, comedy and telivision in general.

I'm pissed about missing Futurama, Workaholics, Tosh (and I'm not so sure viral videos is just a west coast thing, dunno what that's all about...), Wilfred, Anger Management... there were a lot of shows I liked watching. One thing is for sure though, the shows aren't worth putting up with Viacom's greed and their immaturity in this whole situation. ESPECIALLY when they block the shows online. They can go suck a donkey dick.

Viacom is a perfect example of how greedy these rich companies are. Asking to charge 30% more for channels you already have is bullshit.
Think +30% is bad? Look at what AMC said they're planning to up their rates to =\
