HOW BOUT THEM GIANTS!!!! Thoughts on the game and the Dallas Brokeback Mountains
I've been a hardcore Giants fan since forever. And since forever, everyone talks oodles of shit about them. EVERYONE!!! Especially those who claim to be New York Giants fans. I don't get it. There are 30 some odd teams and it truely seems that the Giants get the most flack. And layoff Eli. If he wasn't the commercial king's brother there would be much less scrutiny. And the fact that he lost his left guard Dave Diehl, and the recievers dropped passes all over the place shows that its' not all on Eli. But people don't look at those aspects. They see him get sacked and think its his fault he didn't get rid of the ball.
Football is the biggest team sport there is. If one of 11 guys misses an assignment, bad things will happen.
Anyway, I would like to talk about the game between the Giants and Cowboys that was played Sunday...as well as some events thereafter. Prepare for a classic CMR rant....
THE GIANTS WON THE GAME!!! THE COWBOYS LOST!!! Not because Dallas gave the game away, because the Giants outplayed them until the end. Because the Giants did not pack it up after halftime.
Dumbass Wade Phillips had some really interesting things to say in a press conference the next day. He said that, "...the best team lost. We outplayed them." Perhaps Dallas is, on paper, a better team. But, they lost.....meaning the Giants played better, and won. Sooooo, in most humans eyes, the Giants are better.
If the Cowboys outplayed us, why was it tied going into the half at 14?? Why did the Giants hold the wonderfuck and his offense to only 3 points in the 2nd half if they outplayed us?? The biggest mistake they made was taking 10+ minutes to score only one touchdown. I know where to give credit where credit is due, and that drive was beautiful. 20 plays, wow. But, both teams could have scored twice during that time. The Giants could have lost a lot of momentum and confidence after that....but no. They came back and shoved it down their throats.... went around 70 yards in 46 seconds to score a touchdown and tie the game. Seems to me both teams were outplayed in both those well executed drives.
One of the most important things about football is being able to make adjustments. Yea the Cowboys scored 70 something total points against us in the first two regular season games. And they had their offense going in the first half on this game.... as did we. But the biggest factor was that the Giants were able to make the proper adjustments after half time. The defense came out and thumped the Cowboys in the second half....only allowing 3 points. They brought some serious blitz packages and forced Romo to make poor decisions. The cowboys, for some unknown reason, made poor adustments. Marion the Barbarian was running all over us.... where was he in the 2nd half??? Oh yea, under Strahan and Osi.
If anyone says that Wade Phillips is a good coach they don't follow football, or know anything about it. This year's Cowboys team was there for him when he got there. All the ground work was laid out for him to come in and do whatever. Ya know how they say some quarterbacks 'manage' the game? Well, all Phillips had to do was 'manage' a team given to him by the Tuna. Parcells made that team what it is. Both coordinators were Parcells' and a lot of the coaches.... so Parcells' schemes were still there. IMO, the only thing Wade Phillips did better than the Tuna was talk to the media and be a player friendly coach.
And when it comes down to it, Tony Romo is responsible for ending 2 consecutive playoff loses. Did anyone look at the coverage he tried to throw into at the end of Sunday's game?? The pass got picked off then, and it would have every time.
Tony Romo is an unproven pretty boy. Jerry Jones gave him multi-millions of dollars, based on games from 2 seasons that add up to one full season. He fell backwards into the starting job because Bledsoe lost it (really never had it). He was good the first 5 or so games last year, then he went waaay downhill and eventually blew the Cowboys playoff hopes. This year he did very well...... something like the 9th most TDs thrown in a season ever. Pretty damn good. Yet, in the end of the regular season, where it counts, he once again walked on down that hill. Going 1-3 and ending another post-season with a costly mistake.
Quite often people will look at the game and give lame excuses about why they lost. Yea Crayton dropped a sure 25+ yard completion. IF he caught it means nothing. If I wanted to play that card, I could easily say the Giants would have won 2-3 more games. New Yorks recievers dropped something like 46 passes this year. We are forced to use guys on the practice squad for our starting secondary.
Every team in every game makes mistakes.....and its ludacris to use those mistakes as leverage in an arguement. Those mistakes are a part of the game.
Next, I gotta touch on Terrell Owens. I hate him. He is an amazing athlete, but he knows it. And he lets people know he knows it. His post game press conference was the single most selfish act I've ever seen in sports. TAKE OFF THE GLASSES AND LETS SEE WHATS REALLY UP! The only reason he said those things was to get his ass off the hotseat. By mentioning Romo's ridiculously overpublicized Mexico trip, he passive-aggresively but the blame on Romo and off himself. Not many people are mentioning how well the Giants corners covered him off the line of scrimmage and how he caught ZERO balls in the second half. And thats because of his 'act'. Now he looks like the perfect teammate...when in real life its all bullshit. He 'cries' over the media busting his quarterbacks chops.....yet ever team he went to he had problems with the QB. And it will happen again...its starting to now. He is the single most selfish pro-athlete playing today.
One thing I compare his post-game performance to is Jessica Simpson using a football star as a publicity stunt. No one can sit here and say that she isn't loving all the attention. And no one can sit here and say that Romo didn't bring it on himself. An analysist on ESPN said it best.... if you want to 'get away'.... go to your damn house. Romo should know better.... Jessica Simpson and the like purposely leak info about who/what/whens and wheres so they can get publicity. Now I obviously can't say anything about their relationship....but from my vantage point, Jessica Simpson used Tony Romo and made out like a bandit. She wasn't doing anything and wasn't in the media before all this.....now she's everywhere. Polluting every single sports show with her bangin body.
In closing I would like to say how happy I am that the Giants went into Dallas and beat down the Cowboys. They needed a let down. Everyone sucked their dick up until they lost....and they still won't give the Giants too much credit. There was much more coverage on ESPN about the Cowboys losing and what they are doing to do now than the actual winner!!! I mean, the Giants are in the freakin NFC campionship game!!! Come on!! I didn't see one single analyst pick the Giants to win that game. And I am more than willing to bet money that 90% of them pick Green Bay this week.
Who besides me thought the Giants would win 10 games?? Who besides me knew the Giants could play well in the playoffs?? No fucking body.
I could easily talk lots of shit about the Giants too. Every team for that matter. All teams have flaws and make mistakes. But, IMO no other team deserves it as much as Dallas. For some reason they have this sense of entitlement that they did not earn. 'America's team'???? Who the hell crowned them that?? Did they ask America? Everyone outside of Texas, who isn't the definition of a front-runner, hates Dallas. Myself included.
Sorry Dallas fans.... but it's all true and you know it.
Bring on them Patriots!!!!! Good lord I would lvoe to see the Giants beat the Pats in the Super Bowl. I would immediatley ejaculate in my pants.
