human cloning

i noticed that this topic has not been talked about on the forums before...

so... currently cloning of embryos for research or reproductive purposes is currently illegal... there is a growing debate about whether or not we should clone humans(if even possible)..

some of the more common arguments against is include: cloning is like playing god or stepping into gods domain, or cloning is unnatural and against human dignity....

proponents of cloning give arguments like: we are masters of our own destiny, and that god would has given us these abilities for a reason, and then we are not overstepping our bounds because nature is not independent of human influence...

i think the debate on cloning is focuses too much on personal and reproductive issues and not enough on broader social gains but i do not yet have a strong opinion on whether or not we should clone human beings....

so whats your opinion on human cloning...

I am for sure for it. I belive we still have a long way to go before we can just clone a human. It would be an great advancement because we could have a bunch of clones of ourselfs that we can use for body parts or organs that we need. Since it would be a clone of us thier wouldn't be a problem with the blood type or the body rejecting the new part or organ. I fell it would someday in many years will be very useful for the human race.

again.. you are talking of the personal(clones for organ doning etc.) ... i am talking about cloning people that have a higher intellect or people with greater resistance to pain or pollution... they have cloned animals already... so i dont think cloning humans is that far off..

I wouldn't want the clones to be any different. It would be kinda werid to have a super human clone that has resistance to pain or are smarter. They would more then likely take over.

I don't understand how god can legally be used as an arguement with seperation of church and state in place. I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed.

Could the clone be reincarnated?

If the clone could get baked would it be closer to god?

Cloning's ok...I don't believe in souls, so that wouldn't be a problem for me. I don't believe in god, so 'playing god' wouldn't be a problem, either.

But I wonder who would like to have a clone? That would mean several things:

1. You wouldn't be unique any more
2. You'd watch yourself go through puberty (who the hell'd like that?)
3. Your clone will inevitably be a lot younger than you...where's the fun in that? You'll never be equal.
4. Producing kiddies the natural way is way more fun (both the long hours of practicing and the one nookie that actually gets the job done)


I am worried about the mental state of a clone, though. We all know adopted children usually go through some kind of identity crisis at some time. Imagine the crisis a clone would have to go through?

I think I'd be tempted to get myself cloned if I could. Passing on my ideals in a form that looks like mine. I'd have some long talks with my clone to see if it was me or just looked like me. How it felt about spirituality.

Currently I think we should only clone animals.. Use it for agricultural purposes maybe. Any human cloning would have to be performed in hospitals, under strict guidelines. Cloning technology run amock would just suck.. I'm interested in what the price of cloning would be. What number would they slap on life.

I think we should make all reproduction illegal, have every individual person get a mandatory sterilization, then have the government control all reproduction by cross breeding and cloning the best of the best gene specimens. Grab evolution by the balls and create a new race of superhumans. MuhahahaHAHAHA!

Oh wait, no I'm just kidding. Cloning is pretty fucked up, but if we could only clone specific organs and grow them individually that would be great. But I think some people don't understand cloning, it's not like I could have a clone made of myself and it would be an exact copy of me, it's just like creating a baby with the identical DNA. So while you would be able to take their organs, it would be kind of fucked up becaues you would need to let it grow to be a full sized adult, then kill it by taking out it's organs. That just ain't right. Plus we aren't even close to perfecting cloning by any means. IF they tried to make a clone of a human I guarantee that before making a good one they would have hundreds of mutated monsters they would have to put out of their misery. Ever see Alien ressurection?

cloning a human is very possible, and i believe that its not playing god. this is a tool we will use to evolve into super humans i mean just look at my dog, aint he adorable.

I'm for cloning, although I don't see much point to it. I mean cloning a specific organ would be incredibly useful and I think that may end up being the peak of what cloning can do for us. Because really, what would be the point of having a clone? It would always be X amount of years behind the original person, and studies on indentical twins (which in essense are clones of each other) have shown that although they may turn out similarly, they do have their own interests and personalities. So why waste so much money on making a clone is what I don't understand.

As for the "genetic enhancement" factor, well, if you genetically enhance it then it wouldn't really be a clone anymore, it would be a person who's based on your DNA but with improvements. I'm not for genetic enhancement. I'm all for fixing genetic diseases and the like, but I don't think it's right for someone to be able to say "Ok, I want my kid to have an IQ of 130, be able to run a 5-minute mile, and be about 6 feet tall."
