Will the human race make it?

We are at an age where things on our planet aren't going the best. Our enviroment is getting torn apart, so are the rainforests. The ocean is getting polluted. We are warring at each other, and we have nukes. We have 6 billion people.

An asteroid could hit earth, or we can nuke each other to death.

We have a couple of spaceships, maybe the government has secret advanced tech ones, but that would only be a few.

Colonization is one of our only hopes.

Are we going to make it before it get's too late? or are we screwed?

EDIT: Oh shit I saw a post similar to this down below. Oops. But this is more meant for how we will make it, like methods and such.

To me the big ? is why do we want the human race to survive? Or maybe 'do we want the human race to survive'?

Is it the survival instinct that every animal and living thing on this planet has. And in case: We've suppressed so many instincts, why not this one? Because we haven't confronted it too much lately?

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with our race getting extinct. Earth has lost many species...one more or less wouldn't make a difference.

As for the poll...I'm gonna be optimistic and vote no

It is survival instinct. I don't think it can suppressed either, it's the most basic and important instinct we have.

This might be true in a life-threatening situation, but our intellect should be able to cope with the fear of our race's extinction...

I guess you're right.

I would feel differntly if us humans were peaceful on a united globe with enviromental friendly buildings, materials, energy. And had an intention to spread life and peace through the universe.

But we've fucked up our earth to a degree.

Do we deserve to be on other planets?

An interesting point.

Sometimes I think the human race is God's daytime TV..

LIfe is the ultimate Soap Opera...if I were god...able to do anything...

Creating a race of beings that where advanced enough to become what we are now..then toss in all the animal instincts...the high reasoning an cognitive abilities..

Then add the intelligence to kill ourselves....an all around us...toss in the careless nature of using up everything without thought of damage...

an you got one hell of an example of GOOD TV...

a person aka God....could watch for millions of years....laughin all the time...and knowing the ending...he can make it last an last..for me thats the scary part.....LOL

Here's how nature works, she cradles and supports us. Encourages us to grow. Humans come out supposedly superior using their minds as the tool to survive. We fuck up the planet to the point of uninhabitablity. When humans die out, nature restores herself. Trees regrow, ozone repairs, water gets cleaned. Over millions of years this happens until once again, earth is clean and pristine ready to start over. People fail to recognize a pattern, every major species that has reigned on this planet has died out within a few million years. We are no differnt, we like to think we are, but we're not. We'll die out just like everything else has and will. Then nature will make something new and different. She gets more complex everytime. Just imagine what will come after our supposed reign ends on this planet.

As Kurt Vonnegut says, "Earth's immune system is trying to get rid of us"...

I would find it highly unlikely for us to survive until the end of earth, and I highly doubt we will be able to make it to a new solar system before the sun explodes. If we started thinking of our future as a whole (which currently we do not), then maybe we will make it a few more thousand years. At this rate, however, I don't see us lasting too long.
