okay, well, let me start by saying that i myself am an atheist. i believe in no "power" or god of any kind.

now...well, my uncle today was talking to me about christmas decorations. he mentioned that in a town on Long Island, NY there was supposed to be a lighting of the town's Christmas tree. but atheists had to complain, saying that forcing everyone to recognize it as a "christmas" tree isn't fair to those who don't celebrate christmas. so now they call it the "holiday" tree.

well...last time i checked, pine trees were used in the CHRISTMAS celebration for hundreds of years! so now you feel that it should be changed just because you don't celebrate christmas? WTF? so, if you don't agree with a custom that has occured for hundreds of years all over the world, then it should be changed? no one is forcing them to look at the damn thing, and just by having it lit up and calling it a christmas tree shouldn't be offensive in any manner.

same thing goes for the pledge of alligience. if you don't agree with the "God" part, then don't say God! skip it over! or be like me and don't say it all. SIMPLE SOLUTION!

these atheists are just giving the rest of us the bad name of just being a bother on the rest of society because they don't agree with something that really has no adverse affects on anyone and can be easily avoided.

yeah there is a religious meaning behind the tree, some protestant dude brought the tree inside to remind his children of the beauty of gods creations. I like having a christmas tree because, I like the smell and the look of the tree. Call it whatever the fuck you want, It won't bother me a bit

I can name faults with pretty much every religion out there...or non-religion. They all suck so just believe in what you want and leave the dude next to you alone. He doesn't request your wisdom on this or that don't fucking give it. You don't like his choices...so what? He can screw himself up any way he wants so just leave him be an take care of your own problems.

One thing I will say...it really should be a crime to force your beleifs upon your child. Just cause you had them doesn't give you rights to their soul mind or body. Teach them right and you won't need some silly tradition to keep them in line.

Hey illsomosis I don't mean to hijack your thread but I found this and it's along the same lines. It's a story about a highschool christian rock band, that was banned from playing during a school anti drug assembly (hey this kinda ties into us!!) You know, there were quite a few different religions at my school, and I can't remember once giving a rats ass what religion somone was, or if they expressed it. It's always the parents that seem to object. Most of them just want something to bitch about. there's an old couple in my city that are taking the city to court over a traditional christmas tree that's in the city hall, basically the same exact reason...they feel the city shouldnt recognize any "christian paraphinalia". the schools around here arent allowed to sing christmas songs and in some department stores it's against store policy to say "Merry Christmas" to their customers. it's all one big trend, there was one isolated incident and soon we wont even be able to put christmas trees in our homes or put lights on our houses because we might offend our neighbors. i seriously think this is the end of the world.
