Yea, I was just playing devil's advocate. I don't actually believe in God. I've seen way too much bad shit to think that there is any consciousness watching over us.

Humans created the concept of god to explain the unknown.

God was an answer to explain all of the unknown variables of the universe . . . He is all seeing, all knowing, created everything, etc.

It is a convenient solution for an inconvenient problem (that 'problem' being lack of understanding of the universe).

I think that in one way, the concept of god can be a total cop-out.

In another way, the concept of god can give people hope in their lives and fill their mentality with positive energy.

I believe that honestly, 'god' is inside the head - a part of our mind that seeks to explain the universe to us in a way that is more emotional than logical.

I myself practice no religion, however I do believe that god is possible and may very well exist. The definition of god can encompass so many things though, and mean so many different things to different people that it is easy to get lost - I think that organized religion has corrupted part of the self-enlightenment process of trying to understand god.
Instead of truly asking ourselves what is in us, we run to jump on the bandwagon and dismiss self-enlightenment.

I don't think that over the course of human existence we have ever come closer to reaching this possible god. We may never accomplish this simply because our concept of god itself may be something that is not even on-par with what god may truly be.

We can all play the guessing game, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

He sure went through a lot of trouble to make his presence known in the past, how come now that there's globalization, advanced recording technology and more sin then there ever could have been in the past he is not going old testament and drowning all of our asses? The Judeo-Christian concept of God is a dated and flawed figure. He does not exist and never has. If you still believe in this version of God "faith," is the equivalent of "stupidity." While a God may exist it is CERTAINLY not the Judeo-Christian version.

Also to the tons of "first cause" arguments I've a few responses. First what created God? Since the Universe NEEDS an outside source to exist should God not? If God does not require a first cause then neither does the universe. Additionally, quantum physics has shown that spontaneity exists. By that I mean particles sometimes just seemingly appear without explanation.

Arrrrggg.... burden of proof. It's not the same question at all.

I have to ask, why have faith? What's the point? In what way is it a virtue? To me, faith seems baseless and destructive. To believe something is true just because you choose to believe in its truth... what purpose does that serve?
