If there was no existence , You'd have to ask why there is no existence. If there is existence , you'd have to ask why there is existence. Either way it's very strange. Either way , there's still a question to be answered.
Existence is incomprehensible , as is the lack thereof.
Reality is strange , as is the lack thereof.
'Nothing' is just as comprehensible to the human mind than 'Everything' is.
It's impossible to have objective preception. Your fooling yourself

we are in an illusion

as we are in this "dream" we do have reasons for existing

Yes, yes, I agree. Great post.

Re: Why We Are Here

Mathematically it all adds up. Everything consists of energy and for energy to exist, there must be an equal amount of negative and positive charges creating this energy. The universe might have an ending, but since the universe is everything there is it could only possibly end in nothingness which means that the universe doesn't actually have an ending and is therefore infinite. That leaves us with this equation:

(+∞) + (-∞)

Isolated properly we get:
∞ - ∞ = 0

In that sence everything is exactly the same as nothing. The only difference between the universe (everything) and nothing is that in the universe, negative and positive values are kept apart while in "nothing" they have merged and cancels each other out. In other words, the universe is the equation while "nothing" is the result. In a way I find this to be a very logical and reasonable explanation on how something can come out of nothing and vice versa.

Wow that universal equation is quite interesting, quite interesting indeed. I will have to ponder it for awhile to truly understand it.

Re: Why We Are Here

I ponder stuff like existence and conciousness a lot lately and I just want to recommend the the movie/documentary "What the bleep do we know: Down the rabbit hole". It looks beneath the hood of the universe (subatomic world, quantum mechanics, string theory etc.) and completely blew my mind while still making me feel like it all makes complete sense. Check it out you wont regret it if stuff like this interests you.

That film is a false, knowingly incorrect, 'New Age' pile of trash. I'm the most open minded person you'll ever meet but they present complete lies as science. They misuse terms, misuse experiments and present them as the truth. Don't take it from me though, here is a very in depth explanation of why that film is terrible for all of us: Skeptico: What the (Bleep) Were They Thinking?

Re: Why We Are Here

no matter what you think you know, it could all mean nothing at all. We could all be part of one cosmic energy (god or whatever)

the fact is, i have no idea, the best thing you can do is live your life the way you want to and positively influence those around you as best as you can, even if they hurt you whether its physically, mentally, or emotionally.

The golden rule lives on as it should, its not just a silly saying, living by it will truly enhance your human experiences i believe

It just made me realize how absolutely insane life is. How could matter exist for eternity? Where would it have come from in that case? And if it was created from nothing, that question still applies. It's just so crazy, and no matter what, that question will exist for all our lives, and we may or may not ever learn the answer.

The point of this is, appreciate life. From an objective probabilistic point of view, all odds are that we should NOT be here. It should have just been nonexistence for eternity. Yet for some reason we are here. IT IS INSANE!
how does our solar system move to exact position? earth is very suitable for humans, and we randomly populate here, there must be a higher being, i dont believe in religions though but a higher being who is merciful because we are still alive. 2012 i have no idea LOL

Re: Why We Are Here

the universe always was and always is, the universe is still growing. earth itself is nothing in the universe, the universe is sooo big, yet man shed blood and kill over land on it. and our existence on earth is sooooooooo lucky. we are really here for no reason, the human reason for living is to reproduce. the universal reason, there is none.

Nah man the reason earth is so suitable for human life is because humans only survived because they managed to, we didn't just randomly populate here, we evolved because of a suitable environment, and if it hadn't been suitable you or I wouldn't be here to discuss it, we'd be on some other planet we managed to survive on, or nowhere

Re: Why We Are Here

I thought you were going to go somewhere different with this thread.

But uh, I was thinking earlier today that everything about life changes constantly, and that it's pointless to search for reasons or meaning because even if you happen to dig up gold, before very long those meanings will change and you're back to square one.

I like how Carl Sagan says it: we are a way for the universe to know itself. (that's probably not the exact words so I'll call that paraphrasing.) We are always trying to know more about the universe, some of us even know we'll never find meaningful final answers to the larger questions, but we still ask them and look for the answers.

Re: Why We Are Here

One thing to remember is that we see the universe through our human eyes and understand things with our human brain.

The human brain & senses are severely limited.

Birds can see better than us, Almost all animals can hear better than us ,Dogs can smell better than us, etc etc....

BTW.... universe or multiverse?
