Should i believe anything?

Should i make my own reality, as i truly see it?

I always hear people telling me,"Do this, go here, you want THIS out of life, not that"

all sorts of bullshit

if one person recommends something for another, and this thing causes nothing but turmoil and negative things for that person, How can anyone listen to what anyone has to say?

I feel like each person wants me to do something different, something that THEY see as beneficial or positive.

The more time i am around people the more bullshit rubs off onto me, i feel tainted by the way they try to influence me. The way i feel abashed and disconnected day to day in this modern society.

I want something out of this life that nobody i know wants, and all the things these people want, i dont want.

the newest cars, phones, ipods, gadgets and gizmos, colleges, relationships, drugs, jobs, money, respect.

All i want is to get away from it all, but i know i cant go far without stumbling upon another strip of concrete.

No real point here, just rambling and contemplating my existence. feel free to say whatever you want.
god bless

Re: Should i believe anything?

Keep digging there's far more in the world then the things you have mentioned. Of course I know you are aware of that, but in your search you will find something undoubtedly meaning full to you.

Also, to answer your question everyone has to believe in some things to even speak a word. Language itself is a system of signifiers that relate to meanings that we rely on to express anything. We must accept in some subconscious way that universal meanings do exist in order to communicate with one another. Maybe its something that happens when we are young and first learning to speak and our mind is still making connections between meaning and those things that signify it.

Re: Should i believe anything?

I feel a connection with what you say.

It feels strange, doesn't it? Like something's fucked up..

I keep hearing the word 'godlessness' pop up in my head when I think about society, but I don't really know if I agree with that or not, it feels weird to. But I guess more or less by definition it would be. 'God' is an idea that is universal in all religion, even non-religion, in whatever form it arises.

It would suggest I think, in the way I view the interconnectedness of belief systems that Atheism, in the extreme form, would bring about some type of negative effect down the line. Equal and opposite reaction, you know? I think it inevitably leads to a world that lacks emotion or sensitivity. It may make us survive, but everything survives through adaptation.

But there's nothing wrong with that, it's the strange thing. The system will always be set up that way, in some hierarchical fashion, and that breeds all the bullshit we create.

There's no progress only change..

.. Just going off your vibe man, good post.

Re: Should i believe anything?

@OP

I think your sig touches on some of the points you've raised here, whether you realized it or not. The harsh truth is that most people you encounter in life have their own self-interests at heart, if only subconsciously. So keeping that in mind, it's important (at least to me) to learn what I can from my environment rather than letting that same environment define who I am. For instance, you have learned that you live in a largely materialistic society, based on your post, but that doesn't mean you have to be materialistic as well if you choose not to be.

In short, I'd suggest you just be who you are.

A harsher "truth" might be that no one can ever be truly selfless and will always subconsciously ensure that they themselves are taken care of first and through every action.

This is what the greatest minds ever decided to do.

Do it. Fuck everyone else.

They killed Socrates for it and it only made Plato better.

Well I wouldn't say this is all the greatest minds ever did or if it was really what they saw themselves as doing. Although to some extent those with overwhelming powerful wills have done this.

It's about much more then simply "creating your own reality." Whatever that actually means. If you wish to be "the coming man" (Nietzsche BGE) who will be one of the new philosophers. Then you must isolate yourself from the herd and accept the suffering and struggle of being alone in order to smash the idols of modernity. (something like that)

Re: Should i believe anything?

Society is fucked up. Seriously.
I find it difficult just standing it sometimes. The common stupidity of people also aggravates me even more.
That's why I just do my own thing. I don't expect you to follow me , I expect you to do your own thing too.

It can be done. I left normal society 25 years ago and don't have a car, credit card, phone, IPod, etc. and really don't want them. I use society from the outside in for my needs - basically food, rent and the odd pair of shoes. Once you get used to doing whatever work is put your way when you need money, it's a very free way to live, and I could never go back now to 9 to 5 and 'civilised' life again.

intriguing. I've always felt like I'd be happier like that, just don't have the balls to leave everything/everyone I know behind.

If you're wondering whether you should trust people why are you back asking for advice from them?

You don't necessarily have to do that, think of it more like leaving the 9 to 5 drudge. if you have skills (or even just a strong back you can start to avoid 'normal' work and make your own way. It isn't too hard once you've made the initial leap, but yes, that does take some doing
