Astrology and Horoscopes are all bull

They have no relevance, you brainwash yourself into believing whatever it tells you about yourself

You assume that you have free will and are liberated to choose spontaneously and objectively.

Observe your thoughts for 24 hours, and you will likely find that your thoughts are irrespective of you, and that they come and go of their own record. Any thought now is a direct product produced by tempering in a fire - this fire is the combination of your biological/hormonal predispositions, innate tendencies that can be attributed to the soul (or not if you don't believe in it - there is no denying that you have innate tendencies that existed even before conditioning starting shaping your personality) - occurrences and circumstances in your life which are direct result of an infinitely complex web of cause and effect that applies to all matter including you, and appears to you as your reality in your narrow scope of immediate consciousness at any given time), and the thoughts that result in response to these situations, which are also subject to cause and effect right from the first thought and the circumstances that tempered and changed your thoughts along the way).

Indeed, horoscopes are not final - they are the likely trajectory of your course of being and the circumstances that will befall you if the natural course of cause and effect was following by you and most things that relate to you - it can be altered subtlety, though rarely fully, but "hitting" it off its trajectory by knowledge of its probable course, and using the knowledge (which came to you by cause and effect itself), to alter that specific course. In short, you were destined to see the principle of destiny in a subtle way, and seemingly influence your own destiny) - all one long chain starting from the conception of your first body, or from the conception of this one if that is all you choose to acknowledge.

i just watched Pi for the first time yesterday - so i can't help but say that, there is an underlying pattern in everything

but i do beleive that. I do beleive in astrology, because people throughout history have been able to use it to predict many many things. Look into it, and you'll find tons of proof. and it won't affect your day. Astrology doesn't predict the pattern of the individual, but the whole. what we need to realize is that we are all one and part of the whole. UNITY. And if your a disbeleiver, or thing astrology has no worth... look into it more.

and i think daily horoscopes, especially online, are trash. Its almost like how the bible and current religious beleifs have been so twisted from their original meaning, that they are only there to speak to the lost souls who can't even figure out where to begin their search for truth

Re: Astrology and Horoscopes are all bull

I read the horoscopes in the end of nov last year. First time reading it for years. and HOLY SHIT, it told me what happen on these days and it did really come out true. Sometimes that is just too scary. I never really read the horoscopes but once a while, its fun reading it.

astrology on the other hand, is not complete bullshit. (not going detail it cause wel nfloyd just said it) Mayas used it and they mostly are right.

Re: Astrology and Horoscopes are all bull

The position of stars in the vastness of space has absolutely zero correlation to your daily lives. Study astronomy, not astrology.

Re: Astrology and Horoscopes are all bull

Hey man, like you, many people associate astrology with those daily sun sign readings you get on yahoo.com or in the newspaper. Astrologers don't even think that shit is legit.

It's not

There are so many more complicated methods than that.

Please, be open minded, and try this site im about to post. You need your birth time AND birth city, without those it's not going to give you the correct results you need. This is important in the placing of the moon and other planets. Read your birth chart with out a bias. Don't try and make youreslf believe but dont go in trying to disprove, just read it and see what it comes up with, I think you'll find it incredibly accurate.

Re: Astrology and Horoscopes are all bull

So now because Mayans used them, they are correct? What logic is that?

Quote:

Astrology is the system of belief in which knowledge of the relative positions of celestial bodies is used to interpret and organize information about personality, human affairs, and other terrestrial matters.

Since earliest known records in about 2300 BC; astrology has played a role in the shaping of culture and politics throughout history. In fact, despite the modern conceit that we live in an "enlightened, scientific and literate society", nearly every major newspaper in the world contains an astrological horoscope section.

Unfortunately, Astrology is really a load of crap .

4300 years ago, when the ancient Babylonians invented the practices we now call astrology, they were earnestly trying to understand the world they inhabited. The Babylonians did not have anything resembling the scientific method of thought, but did the best they could.

Babylonian astrology was based on the "theory of divine governance". This theory encompassed the belief that events on earth, including famines, harvests, wars and treaties were the direct result of the will of a large number of gods. These gods were active and regular agents affecting earthly and human matters, unlike the distant or non-involved "God" that many modern Christians may recognize.

Starting from the Babylonian's observation that the fertility of the soil depends upon the sun and rain from the heavens; and that mischief and damage done by storms and floods were to be traced likewise to the heavens; the conclusion was made that the gods had their home in the heavens.

Observation of the night sky, coupled with the desire to predict important events such as storms, or crop failures led quite naturally to the early Babylonian astrology.

The Babylonians divided the night sky into small discreet regions, each the home of one of their gods. These regions, although renamed and reshaped since 2300 BC, are what we now call constellations. There are 88 constellations defined and recognized by the International Astronomical Union, these 88 regions of the sky encompass the entire sky visible from the surface of the Earth. This is obviously many more than the 12 commonly associated to zodiacal astrological star-signs familiar to every modern newspaper. To understand the significance of these 12 zodiacal constellations, its necessary to understand a little about the mechanics of our solar system.

There are nine Planets in our solar system, varying in distance from the sun, from the nearest, mercury, to the farthest, Pluto. (or Neptune, as Pluto has recently be reclassified, losing its planetary status) The planets in our solar system all orbit the sun in the same direction, and in the same plane. That is, all the planets follow orbital paths which are more-or-less in line with each other, defining a flat plane with the sun at its center. This is called the "plane of the ecliptic" because if three celestial bodies, such as the sun, the moon, and the earth briefly "line up" creating an eclipse, it is on this plane.

From the surface of the Earth, the plane of the ecliptic can be drawn across the sky as an imaginary line. Observations of the planets and the sun will always be along this imaginary line.

The constellations of the zodiac are defined as those which are bisected by the plane of the ecliptic. A person's "zodiacal sign" is the constellation in which the sun is found on the date of their birthday.

The zodiacal constellations are:

  1. Sagittarius
  2. Capricorn
  3. Aquarius
  4. Pisces
  5. Aries
  6. Taurus
  7. Gemini
  8. Cancer
  9. Leo
  10. Virgo
  11. Libra
  12. Scorpio
  13. Ophiuchus

Some people might be surprised to learn there are not twelve, but thirteen constellations in the zodiac. In the 2nd century AD a Greek astrologer and mathematician named Ptolemy published a set of astrological tables which omitted the thirteenth constellation, Ophiuchus. Ptolemy's 12-sign astrological table was based on the sun spending an equal amount of time in each constellation, corresponding to the 12 months of the calendar. He is known to have used the then-2400 year old Babylonian astronomical data. As a popularizer of horoscopic astrology, Ptolemy may have sacrificed accuracy for simplicity.

Whatever scientific merit there might have been in the still-developing field of astrology, Ptolemy's tables mark a point of divergence from the later science of astronomy which replaces it. Present day horoscopes published in newspapers still use the same tables.

If people still believed that events on Earth were controlled by supernatural beings living in the sky, modern horoscopic astrology would have a significant problem.

That Ptolemy's tables were based on second-millennium BCE Babylonian data brings up the issue of precession. The Earth, as most people know, not only orbits the sun once per year, it also rotates on its own axis once per day, similar to a spinning top.

Like a top, or a gyroscope, the earth's axis of rotation slowly wobbles. If an imaginary line were extended straight up from the Earth's North pole; this wobble would describe a circle.

For a small toy gyroscope, the wobble has a period of 1 or 2 seconds, for the Earth, the period is 25,800 years. Since 2300 BCE, the earth has precessed about 1/6 of a single wobble. Ignoring the arbitrary omission of Ophiuchus from the table of zodiacal constellations, the beginning and end dates of each of the remaining zodiacal constellations are off by roughly 5 days. This means anyone born within 5 days of the date that the sun leaves one constellation and enters another is categorized into the wrong sign entirely. Fortunately, none of these glaring problems diminish the legitimacy of astrology, and nobody still believes that the weather is controlled by supernatural beings.

The Ptolemaic model of the solar system, in which earth stood at the center of the known cosmos was replaced by Copernicus's heliocentric model in his "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres)" published in 1543

With the advent of "modern" astronomy, thanks to Copernicus, and the later work of Keppler and Galileo leading to Galileo's Sidereus Nuncius in March 1610, the supernatural belief system we call Astrology was supplanted by observation and reason.

Horoscopic Astrology published in modern newspapers has also benefited greatly from the results of the scientific revolution of the 20th century. Notably the adoption of computer software has greatly simplified the process of compiling predictive and descriptive astrological horoscopes. A head of state's zodiacal chart and horoscope, which would have taken ancient astrologers days or weeks of laborious calculations, is now generated by the selection of random numbers in a desktop computer, with no need for observation, calculation, or knowledge on the part of the astrologer.

im with you gopher, i can believe modern man still fancys itself in believing such an absurd notion.

astrology is complete bullllllllshit

correlation is not causation, just because the earth was at some position when something happened does not mean that it happened becasue of that.

My horoscope today says "You will face challenges."

It was right. What do you say about that, tough guy?
