official lucid dreaming thread.

there have been a few lucid dreaming threads floating around the city and i thought itd be a good idea to start a collaborated thread.

first i know it is a good idea to right your dream down as soon as you wake up.
then mediate on it, and visualize yourself becoming and being lucid.
also attempt to remember and recognize reoccurring aspects in multiple dreams.
and it is important to say to yourself, "the next time i am dreaming i want to remember to recognize that i am dreaming".

its also a good technique, as soon as you wake up and can first remember your dream, to write down the background noise in your mind. and not to analyze it until you finish writing it all down. no matter how crazy it seems.

this is all the info on lucid dreaming i have come across so far.
a lot thing i need to try.
any contributions to the thread would be greatly appreciated.

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

the problem for me is, i have trouble remembering more than the last seconds before i awake.

any thoughts on why that is?

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

I am working with this. Due to my developed ability to meditate and be in awareness, im using the 'staying aware as your body goes to sleep' method. It is an eerie experience and I still havent gotten to a dream while in awareness, but I have fallen asleep while aware numerous times. Its a very strange, alien experience. Your body is asleep, under involuntary control you cannot move it consciously (sleep paralysis), but you are completely aware of the fact that you are asleep and can guide your consciousness. I can feel that lucid dreaming its just around the corner for me though.

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

so, how would you wake up? can you make your body wake up, or would you just have to wait till it awakes by itself?

When I am having a nightmare I can make myself wake up..

Dreams elude me.. I thought after I quit smoking weed (im on probation) that I might start remembering them.. but I don't.

But this thread has inspired me to start a dream log.. so I will start recording my dreams to attempt to higher me awareness.

Don't know, haven't stayed conscious for more than bout 30 mins into sleep. After bout 30 min the consciousness gradually goes unconscious. I don't expect to be able to stay conscious for the full course of sleep until much later in meditational progress.

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

the only times i've been able to redirect my dreams into lucidity have come during periods of my life where i was reading a lot of books and reports on lucid dreams.

the most common way i become lucid is when i notice an aspect of reality within my dreams and recognize them as ridiculous.

an example. i have a checkerboard pouch i use to keep my bowl in. i don't use it so much anymore, but for awhile i carried it with me every day so i was very familiar with it's looks. during a dream, i was walking on the grass and my shoulder bag split open and on the grass i saw some of my things, including the pouch but instead of being checkerboard it was a zebra stripe pattern. i looked at it for a little while and realized that in order for that pouch to be real, i must be within a dream. and with that realization, i took off flying.

i never get much further than that. as soon as i realize i'm in a dream i immediately start to jump and do backflips, or spread my wings like a bird and take off into the sky. i remain aware for a little while but i usually just slip back into a dreamy bliss and forget about all my pre-planned notions of becoming lucid to explore the universe.

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

okay guys, i know that this has been asked about a billion times in the history of lucid dreaming, but let's go over this for me (please):

i've been trying to learn how to lucid dream (not like, intensely, but interested) for literally years. I can SOMETIMES remember my dreams, sometimes not... I think the fact that I smoke before sleep probably hurts it, but I've recently started taking 200mg 5-HTP supplements (in the morning, though, not before bed) so that might counter act it.

i sleep with my gf in a bed, so i don't really feel comfortable listening to audio while dreaming (i've heard that isn't the best way anyway)

please guys, teach me to lucid dream!

Wow, that's pretty impressive, I've never been anywhere near a position of such consciousness while going into a state of sleep, interesting. Something to work towards. How did you go about the practice?

How wonderful that must feel. It's really interesting how that little indicator allows you to free yourself from what at the time is "reality".

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

Last month, i was introduced to lucid dreaming, been studying till today. last week, i had my first lucid dreaming (not going to detail it) it was awesome. then after that i couldnt get to lucid dreaming cause i forced it too hard, no dreams at all (just woke up having a no dreams) or forgot about it and follow whatever its leading me.

i'm going start a dream journal, but i always get into this one problem, when i wake up, its either i rushed to get clothes on and get ready for day or lay down, thinking something else.

Re: official lucid dreaming thread.

Ok, I used to have really good dreams when I was younger, but over the years this faded.
Now I can rarely even say that I had any dreams, because I never remember anything of them.

And I wish I did.

I've also heard about marijuana suppressing REM sleep. And I am unsure of this, which is why I'm calling forth the wrath of Sam_Spade. Sam, please hook me up with some articles regarding the correlation between marijuana and sleep/REM sleep. As an arts student, I can rarely find what I need in terms of scientific sources. It would be greatly appreciated.

Now, I have gone to sleep and 'meditated' and become aware while the feeling of the body and its senses are becoming more shallow. I remember thinking "Ok, I'm here, so fucking show me something." I started getting getting these really weird snapshot images of things which I had never physically see in real life, really gorey and horrific shit.

I also had another weird sleep-related incident, maybe I will talk about that another time in the proper thread.

So I know my mind is working, but I just don't seem to have any visible connection to my sub-conscious sleep-state. And I wish I had one. Anyone with information around this that could be relevant or practical, I would be more than happy to hear.
