Just a thought to ponder....

i was watching History Channel and they were doing a show on the evolution of man. Half way through i noticed something. When ever man mastered an element man took a step forward in evolution. Example, when man started to master fire man had a huge leap forward. cooked meat meant that less muscle was needed in the head to eat the food as fire tenderizes the meat. less muscle in the head expanded the cranial (sp?) cavity allowing our brains to grow in turn making us smarter.

once we became smarter we began to master earth. making shelters, tools made from rock and wood which lead to the wheel. soon after the wheel man took another step forward when man started to master water. boats, aqueducts, etc. with such advancements we even decided to take flight to master air. planes, windmills, etc. Man has now became so advanced that man can manipulate electricity. computers, t.v., radio, are just some of the things.

Once man masters an element we take a huge leap forward in advancing our kind. What makes me nervous is that i believe that we are still in our "adolescent years" of our evolution. we are like kids absorbing information, constantly learning. unfortunately we are becoming more like teenagers. We polish our egos by looking back and admire the accomplishments not realizing the accomplishments we need to make.

I totally agree. Humans and chimpanzees diverged millions of years ago and between then and, say, 50,000 years ago, people have been basically living in the same way: hunt, gather, use simple stone tools, live in small tribal communities in fierce competition with any other small tribal communities.

All of the evolution that makes us uniquely people and not just a monkey's uncle has prepared us for that kind of a life. It didn't prepare us for a world where we live in cities which we have the power to destroy with one atom bomb, where we can fly to the other end of the world in a matter of a few days.
