Where I come from (and think as I do)

This isn't meant as yet another debate thread. Just a friendly "these are my convictions" kind of thread. As such, make the best argument (whilst short as possible) you can for why you think as you do.

And try not to debate others beliefs in this thread. Spawn new ones on a field of contention where you see them. But ofcourse, clarifications in this thread are more than welcome

As the OP, I am obliged to start:

---

I don't really think of me as anything else but a member of the human race. We're a cool branch of life, but that is simian bias speaking. By small increments of evolution we have the ability to ask ourselves if magic is real on a technological marvel as the internet. Which is to say we got a bit to go before we can truly call ourself intelligent. As a race.

I believe in luck though, as in the sense of any one of us actually beeing alive is entirely lucky to be so. You could extremely easily have not. What if your mother did remember the pill those days prior? Or your father kept his promise to 'jump off at the turn'? Or if that semen on the left got ahead of the one on the right, the two runner-ups in a race amongst billions, just to make you? Not even mentioning the millions, billions, of generations before you, originating with that first life.

The numbers boggle the mind. but there is a pattern to it. A fractal if you wish. complexity from simplicity. And the same rules apply everywhere. As such there is no room for meddling gods, anything that breaks the rules. Everything complex comes from something simple. Gods are not simple. Whatever the cause for our universe and existence is, it is not complex.

That is the rational side of it. How about the emotional? I must admit existence do baffle me. This universe, and tiny little me. It would be simple asking why, but I think that to be the wrong question.

We can make anything into why. From being the best weedgrower to being special in the eyes of the master of the universe. I just don't think we'll ever get to know 'why'. Partially because such a thing may not exist. But we can get pretty far along the road of 'how'.

And until we know how, is there a reason to think we can even begin to ask why?

---

I know what you mean about the chances of being born. I think about that all of the time. Whether my mom and dad never met, she got pregnant at a different time, or a different sperm fertilized the egg. Overall me being born is pretty much a miracle.

Indeed. And that is true of all of us

We have all won the lottery ticket of life. But some are unlucky enough not to be able to enjoy it properly. Others choose to live in denial of the pleasures of life.

Their loss
