Is war torture?

Exactly what you're thinking... you know how soldiers come back. Be honest.

Just one group of people with mental scarring, not to mention physical scarring, broken families, lied-to soldiers given no money for college, shitty gear to defend against rockets with... beheadings... rape... Not to mention civilian damage. Question: how many Americans will vote for war if the war is going to happen on U.S. soil? To us.

If military service wasn't voluntary, it would be torture.

some believe they should die for there country, like others feel they are obligated to die for their religion/god.

although that is a good point, is a military draft torture? so i guess yes by definition

Making yourself run a marathon beyond your own limits = torture.

You don't need to have to be unwillingly drafted for war to be torture.

Edit; I'm aware of all those other obvious torturous aspects of war, just wasn't sure how general you were being, by how you worded your OP.

Oh, consider me both as vague and precise as you need me to be. I strive to reach everyone.

Quite extended duration too... But hey, it's so everyone can feel it and get the point.

What is the point of this? You just throw out concepts and ask for a debate without any point or position you set as premise, a contention of further dialogue?

It is lazy threadstarting. You're in college. You should soon learn that war is war, as per a definition. Torture is torture, as per another definition. The two can overlap. And war sure do increase the frequency of torture. In your previous and recent torture thread, I've told why I think so. Them/Us thinking.

But just as war and torture is cruel, apples and oranges are fruit.

Apples are not oranges however.

I'm really feeling where you're coming from.

No offence to you bkadoctaj, but he's got a good point in his first statement.

its torture if your intentions are to harm the people instead of help them (meaning if you are defending yourself you dont attack civilians, if you are attacking, you better have a damn good reason). its torture to engage in a war that the other side doesnt want, and does not deserve it (Iraq is not an example, cuz even though the government may have had ulterior motives, it DID help the people, and no im not talking out of my ass, i know natives of the middle east including Iraq Iran and Afghanistan and have heard several opinions). and its torture to implement a draft, making your own people fight against their will, it should be a choice.

eh, i kind of agree. it would be ok if the arguments you presented were fair ones and not completely hypothetical, but it does seem like you start threads cuz youre bored and then wait to see if anyone else says anything interesting just so you can shoot it down instead of listening and discussing

isnt the point of a forum to talk with others and see what they think? i didnt hear anybody say anything (this is just an example) about the thread that asks if 2 people drink a poisoned drink, is it suicide or murder?
i mean, what happened to open minds and just not saying anything if youre not interested?
