i think im going to ignore mr blonde because there is nothing to respond to-

to get back on topic, when i look at that movie, i applaud it, not because it is arguing for ID or creationism, but because it is pointing out that depite what you believe, evolution is ONLY A THEORY. It is not proven (that doesnt mean its proven false either), and therefore deserves no more credibility than any other THEORY. if anybody believes differently and tries to say so in the scientific world, instead of being shown wrong or whatever, teachers are fired, scientists are ridiculed, and so on. if creationism is such a stupid idea, why not leave it to its own devices? why not let people who want to believe it, believe it? let them lose through intelligent arguments instead of losing their jobs. THATS why i like the looks of the movie

my friend, evolution is proven to be FACT. but that doesnt mean modern humans were a product of it...in fact theres a good chance we werent. i still dont think it was god though. thats why i like all this drama between the creationists and the realists. because eventually people are going to start questioning where we did come from, and stumble upon our origins.

I think that movie will probably be the equivalent of reefer madness in 40 years.

Creationists make it sound as though a "theory" is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night.

I can agree with that on some level, but the truth is: because organized religion seems like an institution to you, does that mean that's all it is to those who are a part of it? Don't you think the people within a religion have personal interpretations (based on their personal experiences)?

Organized religion is an institution. Other wise it would be unorganized.
blast, I've been trapped into making a blanket statement!

Of course!
Its kind of a half-assed attempt at free thought in my opinion.

Have you seen everything you believe can be seen? Or do you cut corners every once in awhile and just buy what you read and what people tell you, especially people you judge to be particularly knowledgeable?

No.

People are just people.

What about you, doc?
Do you memorize your professors words as truth so you can regurgitate them to pass a test?

Memorization is totally different from taking things to heart (and thus, applying "knowledge").

An analogy of this principle that makes sense in my mind is the idea of thinking about something and then actually considering it each time it could be relevant, rather than choosing to disregard it (telling yoursef, say, "that does not [possibly] apply here").

The point is that, people of religion do not merely share the exact beliefs of the authority figures within their church, mosque, or synagogue. Rather they hear, understand that what the authority figure is saying is important to that person (the authority), and thus considers, "hmm, perhaps it should be important/relevant to me".
