Jesus an Astronomical Story?

Anybody ever consider this before? It's in the movie Zeitgeist, and theres a fair amount of logic to back it up.
The theory is that Jesus was just part of another astronomical story in which he was the sun. Such as in the story of Horus, Mithra, Krishna, and many others who all have extremely similar stories as Jesus. (Born on Dec 25th of a virgin, preformed miracles and healed the sick, died on the cross and resurrected after 3 days)
The reasoning behind it is that during winter, the sun starts to move south and the days get shorter. On December 23rd the sun stops moving south and lies in a part of the sky called "the crux" which is an alignment of stars in the shape of a cross, representing the death of Jesus. On December 25th, 3 stars (the 3 kings in the bible) line up and point to the direction of the sunrise, representing the birth of Christ.
There are a lot more similarities but thats all I can think of at the top of my head.

Thoughts?

I think you can find connections between anything if you try hard enough. The date of the celebration (December 25) is traditional, and is not considered to be Jesus' actual birthday.... it isn't in the Bible. It is commonly accepted that the date was chosen to coincide with the Roman winter festivals in the 3rd century AD. The Romans worshiped the sun gods on that day because of the winter solstice, similar to what you've described. So sure, it is definitely safe to say that many other cultural and religious factors came to influence the common perception of Jesus Christ. The most obvious examples come from Zoroastrianism in my opinion.

However, out of all of these previous religious beliefs and mythology that influenced Christianity, there is still one element (many would argue the most important element) that is entirely unique: Paul's theology of Original Sin, or the idea that Jesus sacrificed himself and died for humanity's sins. That isn't found anywhere else, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, or Roman/Greek and Egyptian religions.

Interesting article about Zoroastrianism's influence on Christianity:

that movie is awesome, but i would like to point out that many of the comparisons with jesus to other sun gods and messiahs were blatant lies. im not sure why they would do that, but they lied. research mithra and horus.

Yes, I found it very compelling as well.

Many have pointed out lies... I still feel Jesus never existed. Although it is impossible to know.

Man is born with one thing universal around the world...

No knowledge of god or any supernatural deity.

Myths and legends procure from man trying to explain his surroundings.

That's one thing I've been trying to find out, but I can't find much information on any of those sun gods from trusted resources.

Try The Naked Truth

It do not make the wild ass assumptions as Zeitgeist do, and goes a whole lot more in depth. Zeitgeist the movie is a hodgepodge of crap basically. Paranoid piece of shit. But that is just my opinion, if you overlook the factual errors Zeitgeist promote

well i think the rest of the movie was pretty accurate, but i certainly learned even more thanks to Alex Jones: ENDGAME and Secret Rulers of the World.

as for Jesus existing, its an extremely controversial topic, but truth is, there is no 'evidence' to prove his existance.

thx Zylark for that, ill check it out

I just watched it, and a good portion of it was similar to Zeitgeist (Egyptian religion, ages, meaning of the cross/zodiac etc.) but it did go a lot more in depth and made more sense then Zeitgeist. Definitely a good watch if you're interested in the stuff.

Jesus may have existed as a caring, selfless man who gained a following (Timothy Leary anyone?). But the bible is just a great big work of fiction. Just as any story that is passed on, the facts get skewered into something so far fetched that it does not remotely resemble the original story. So yes, my belief is that all religions warshiping Jesus are basically warshiping the main character in a fantasy book. Would anybody care to pray to Frodo Baggins?
