question

Alright, I've been thinking lately about...God and the Bible. I got stumped on something though. If it took God a whole week just to make our planet, then how the fuck is everything else in the universe here? There's like 82374827347827402987 (i could keep hitting numbers but i wont) other spherical earth-like planets, not including all the suns, moons, etc. And if God is Omniscent (spelling?) or all powerful, couldnt he have just made everything in half of a half of a half of a half of a millisecond? I dont get why it would take such a great being a whole week to make something so puny as the earth is (compared to other things), and why the hell he would need rest? He's God...by a Christians definition of him, he needs no rest.

Religion is a way to keep people from fucking up and being "immoral". Going to heaven is a lovely way to think about death but, I in sincerest way doubt it. It is the easy way out to life. We are getting too smart for the old book teachings that have some fictional things that we might have believed 75-100 years ago.

dude you think God or Jesus christ or who ever made the planet? They made absolutely nothing.

The planet was here like 4 million or billion years ago WAY before any of this rubish came along.

He didn't create the universe neither.

It all created itself on an unimaginable scale.

Lucky if there was even a such thing as God which I think there wasn't and it's all bullcrap.

God is no one, never turned his blood into wine or anything of that sort.

If he did exist he certainly is NOTHING like people think he is and that theres heaven and hell and he has powers and such.

Seriously who ever believes any of this whole religious non sense has serious issues.

Actually the Bible says God took the 7th day off to rest and admire his work. Thus Christians take Sunday off to admire him. You can thank Henry Ford for Saturday.

The Bible also said that to God a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Basically trying to paint the picture that "time" is insignifigant to God. So, trying to figure out how long it took him to do anything is asinine.

Ya know when people ask questions or point out faults in movies?? And the answer given is usually, 'It's a movie."

Same thing. Its just a story. Most of which written decades, if not centuries after the fact.

So it took him 6000 years to make the earth? When did he get time to make the other planets and moons and suns and black holes and supernovas and asteroids and meteorites and crap?

If time is insignificant to God then why did it take him any time at all to make the earth? Why doesn't the bible just say "God wanted there to be an earth so verily there was an earth"?

If that were true there would be no religions based on stuff like this.. ooh i gone and said it.

but in all seriousness, were not getting smarter, if anything its the reverse due to smartness not really playing a role in our evolution; too many dumb fucks manage to procreate. its not like we need to outwit predators or anything like that nowadays..

we are but standing on the shoulders of giants.

Pfff, stop being so negative.

If anything, the relative level of human violence have decreased over the centuries and millennia. And there is a continuing trend of general increase in human IQ and adoption of human-rights based politics. With one notable exception naturally, the islamic world.

Ofcourse, the potential for violence have increased with advances in destructive means of waging war. But those means are primarily massed in reasonable states of the west (Including Russia), India and China. As such the only worries are Pakistan and the amount of civil unrest and possible upheaval Muslims in Europe manage to incite.

The renewed technological/industrial space race between China/Russia and USA/EU/Russia (Russia are really hedging their bet here ) ensures a further and strengthened allocation of funds to the hard sciences, and thru that encouraging free inquiry, a staple of democratic development. Not to mention all the wonderful possibilities that opens up. Not least of which in the light of the emerging private space sector.

With the emergence of self control and stability in South America, what is left really is the mess that is Africa, and the threat that is Islam. Though neither should be minimized, only one of them may lead to a major war.

Oh, and stop trying to make sense of the bible. It is nonsensical, so you'll only hurt your brain if you try

im not sure our intelligence is getting greater though, maybe our extelligence is (knowledge from books and the internet etc).. as for problem solving ability, we use calculators and computers all the time instead of thinking through problems.. we are relying less and less on our brains..

as for violence, id say were about the same as ever: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_toll world war 2 was the most bloody war. note the Noncombatant killings too, the highest numbers recorded this centuary. also in the uk the amount of stabbings and violence has risen over the last decade.

as for human rights based politics, we seem to be going the other way nowadays with the war on terror, the war on drugs.. etc when will people realise you cant solve anything with a war.
