Your right, the bible is a compilation of thousands of years of OTHER PEOPLES STORIES, with the names and locations and meanings changed. Although the location eden and the name Adam weren't changed, direct ripoff of Sumerian tale of creation. That stories about as close to the same as u'll find in the bible, and it's still twisted terribly. Last edited by dadrugsdontwork; 08-15-2009 at 08:37 AM. | |

Christianity isn't all wrong. When you look at it, Christianity, and its Scriptures, has many good lessons. You just have to interpret, and not just read the Bible. Reading the Bible like a novel is pointless. Of course most of the stuff in it did not happen. Some of the stories, such as the great flood, are based on actual ancient occurances (there was a massive flood in the fertile crescent approximately when Noah's ark would have been built). Abraham was originally of the city of Ur, which exists in that same area. The truth of the matter is that most of the stories in the Bible or drawn from other religion, and have Christian names tagged into them. But you always end up with the same message - Love thy neighbor, be compassionate, etc etc. You can't just read a religous text - you have to interpret it. You have to read between the lines, find out the deeper meaning that the stories contain. To me, God is not a being. God is an idea, a theme if you will. God is the innate compassion and love that all humans feel for each other in some nook or cranny of their brain. So being faithful to God is not being faithful to some inter-dimensional, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent being; it's being faithful to your fellow human, and to love and care for all the people of the world. Since God is described in the Christian tradition as a loving, forgiving being, this fits that motif. That would make the Devil apathy towards the needs of others - selfishness. This also fits the motif of Christian theology. Think about it. Have you ever helped someone just because they looked like they needed some help? Feels good, doesn't it? Sometimes you might even get a little rush from it. That's God. That's the love for your fellow man. Someone once said that Christianity is not a religion, it is a way of life. I agree. I do not accept Christianity as my religion, but I do accept it as my philosophy. |
