You are touching on a very interesting subject- that if the universe was infinite, it would always be were it was supposed to be. Everything has already happened and is about to happen again. Always perfect. Always. You are correct, and you are finding contradictions that actually hold true if you don't hold them separate from each other, but together hand in hand. If the universe is expanding AND is infinite- there is only one explaination: That the expansion is an illusion, that resulted from infinity itself. All there is then- is the undefined. If this is true- all we are doing is making up definitions. All we are doing is forming boundaries in a limitless universe.

our problem with this discussion is that nobody really knows, we dont have the science and tech to give enuff evidence to either claim.
I didnt mention blue shift earlier because only close galaxies demonstrate blue shift, the amnt of galaxies displaying a blue shift is dwarfed by the ones displaying the red shift. if we wanted to talk doppler in general i culd include sound as well, but that isnt relevant the universe, if finite, wuld not need to be spherical, however it wuld need to be periodic. Since the universe is everything, there cant really be and edge because whatever is past that edge wuld still be part of the universe. Thus the universe has to wrap back onto itself. A sphere satisfies this condition, but isnt the only option. But, I havent studied enuff topology to give much more of an argument to this our real only answer currently is dependant on density, if the densiy of the universe is below the critical density, it is infinite and will continue to expand forever. if our universe is finite, it will eventually contract until we have more data it isnt really worth it for us to try and rationalize the universe, no matter our conclusion, there isnt enuff evidence to support it...we can leave that up to the physicists |

I believe the universe is finite. But by itself in a nothingness with nothing else doesn't seem to make sense to me.
What if real time for the universe is a 100th of a second (trillions of year for us), and our entire universe was a 100th of a second reaction in a different universe.

The universe doesnt need stuff outside of it to slow it down.
The gravity of everything inside the universe will eventually cause the universe to contract (assuming the universe is finite). Our two options are: the universe is infinite and eventually everything will have too much distance between it to survive, and the univers basically "ices over" or the universe is finite and eventually a contraction occurs and everything dies when that happens |

^Reading that post made me think about this, if our universe is finite, and when it expands to as big as it can get in the alloted space, then what happens? We all blow up? Or maybe time stops? more headache.

if finite, the universe's expansion will slow, stop, then begin contracting.
What if they made a Speed movie, where a terrosrist planted bombs along the perimeter of the universe, and when the expansion stops the bombs blow up so keanu has to learn quantum and relativity to save the day... I think Einstein believed that when this happens, time actually will be moving "negatively" thats where i get confused if time moves backwards woiuld we repllay the unverses existence backwards from the contraction all the way back to singularity? or does everything continue to exist as is, like time is still moving backwards but we cannot realize it. |

It's a lot like the model where two trains are placed on a track in opposite directions. When they take off at equal speed, they look like this <------->
If the universe is infinite, this observation isn't the only possibility for the universe so there are infinite universes. But, the illusion of the expansion of the current universe has been observed and interpreted in finite terms. <-------------------------> When the universe expands, it is also moving in reverse in a parallel universe. So when the universe reaches peak expansion, it will flip-flip (as it expands, reaches the 'limit' of the expansion, and contracts) and never end even being finite It just has parallel universes to counterbalance any movement. This allows the infinite to be finite, forming boundaries on infinity. Call me crazy, it's my own theory ![]() So the expansion would look like this 1<->2 1<--->2 1<------->2 peak 1<------->2 1<--->2 1<->2 flip-flop 2<->1 2<--->1 2<------->1 peak still, just an illusion. Pretty neat magic trick, even for God reality is amazing; and so much more amazing to me for this reason!
