Distinction of God

I have a bizzare and serious question for you folks.

If I'm hearing the voice of God, in my head... and seeing clear and holy signs in my life... how do I know I'm not insane?

Should I do what he is telling me? I don't want to displease him.

I've known ppl who claimed to have holy visions and what not, I've known ppl that claim to be "healers" etc.

They are completely sane, as long as our culture accepts religion (or whatever) as normal....

If we wanted to we could probably lock these ppl away (or any ppl) by distancing them from our culture to where it was eventually acceptable to do so....nazi germany for example, but that would be inhumane wouldn't it?

"Insanity" is defined by the "sane".

Our reality is socially constructed.

Once, during a period of deep meditation, I felt a ripping sensation in my body, looked back and I was laying on the floor. Then I started to float upward but I couldn't move my feet. I was in the position of Christ on the cross, then I opened my eyes and I was sitting down. Did I fall asleep and dream it, did I receive a message from god, am I crazy as piss, or a liar. Eh, who knows. It didn't feel like I was asleep but I've long since decided it must have been a dream. Helps keep me sane.

If you truly believe you are hearing the voice of God and he tells you to act in a certain way or do something, I would act on those impulses.

Unless he's telling you to pillage and burn small towns, then you and God should have a sit down and tell him he has to play nicely

But I think faith is important, and I'm religious so if I had something like that happen to me, I would definitely think about it what happened and reflect on it

Interesting question, I would say it depends on what he wants you to do. If he wants you to be peaceful and love your neighbors then I say don't listen to him, he only wants you to be weak.

However, if he tells you to take what you want and disregard the feelings of others then I would say go ahead and do it. That's the god I know, the other pussy god is an imposter.

Why would it matter WHAT he tells me to?

If he is an omnipotent deity, than I should do whatever the hell he says, no? It's not for me, as a lowly mortal to decide and interupt divine process. I would just be a tool for his will.

The question is faulty really because you have to believe in god to interpret it that way. Just because he commands you to do something doesn't mean you've checked your free will at the door. If I was 100 percent faithful to god, I saw god before me and he told me to off a baby I would. That would be the way my mind works, the question of me being crazy or holy is something to be decided later. Or at the very least something for others to decide, after all I'm either on a mission from god or nuts...who am I to decide.

*realize that's an example and I'm not offing babies in my spare time.

Without reading the rest of the thread i gotta say this, stop thinking so much. if its actually happening, just go with what your heart tells you.

cliche. but...for real.

I think its funny when people say go with what your "heart" tells you. But really now, I hear the voice of God in my head all the time, and right now it's telling me, "Time for food."

If God were to show himself to me in a way that would leave no doubt in my mind as to who he/she/it was, I would do whatever was commanded of me... Provided, it was morally justifiable. If God were to go against logic and reason in his commandments to me, I would not respect his wishes. No God is worth serving, unless that God is prefect and Infallible.
