Bad Religion -- Satan's answer to Evangelism

This thread is a tribute to the punk rock stylizing of Bad Religion. A band that has profoundly challenged authority and organized religion in the minds of millions of young people. A monument to the fact that LA Punk isn't totally horrible.

The heart and soul of the band, Greg Graffin, the lead sing and songwriter is this generation's Jello Biafra.

Their melodic, well-preformed songs (rare in Punk Rock), intelligently and rationally decontstruct various aspects of religion, of faith, of society and culture. Exposing these concepts and ideas in way that stands in stark contrast to 'political correctness'.

Cheers to a band with a whole hell of a lot of substance and talent.

Pick up an album, it'll be worth your time.

I've never actually liked their music. Great lyrics and all, but... Well, it's not just metal now, is it?

I have never listened to their music and know nothing about them. Why do you say they are hypocrites?

"I Want Something More"

Going through a world of sad debris,
Regard quixoitic reveries of ownership:
The blossoming disease of man called tenure and accretion,
The ancient western treadmill of deception and derision.
But I want something more.

Racing through a life of tragic wastage,
I experience the loss of trust and innocence.
The billowing cyclone of time has blown away our reasons
As we trudge like blind men forward trying to avoid collision.
But I want something...More.

Alot of my views on life can be described perfectly by Bad Religion songs.

Bad Religion is one of my favorite bands. Seen them many times live, they always put on a great show. I notice that most of their listeners have no idea what they are talking about. I love their views on our fucked up world.

I think my favorite song is "The Answer". Don't tell me you have the answer cause then another one will come along soon...

Haha yeah man, good song.

I like the Galileo reference.

At a time when wise men peered,
Through brass tubes toward the sky,
The heavens changed in predictable ways,
And one man was able to find,
That he had thought he found the answer,
And he was quick to write his revelation,
But as they were scrutinized
In his colleagues eyes,
He soon became a mockery,

Great lyrics.

Then they go into a crazy guitar solo.

Ahh brass tubes, I always 'sung' glass tubes, when I sing along. Now I feel stupid. LOL.

Sidewalk cypher speaking prionic jive

Weren't both Greg and Jello around during the 80's? Around the time BR got better(Suffer), Jello was moving on to Lard.
I'm not sure I'd compare them, Jello's always been very actively political in a whacky way. He had an awsome platform running for mayor(banning cars in the city) but way too many lawsuits.
Greg is a little more laid back in his approach, probably more effective too. I wonder if or how he expresses opinions in the classroom?

I've got a number of Bad Religion albums, none after 98 though, they were still good but they seemed to hit a musical ceiling for me. Did they regain anything when Gurewitz came back?
I Haven't seen them live since 94. They're releasing an album this year, I wonder if they'll tour like mad.
