Well Mencius said that human nature is innately good on an individual level, but that society's influence causes bad moral character. I can agree with this to a certain extent. But the fact that he wrote this in the 300's BC, and society's influence on the individual still hasn't changed significantly in 2300 years suggests that the future doesn't look too bright for a utopia. It just doesn't make sense... what one society considers to be good moral character, another society considers to be bad moral character. As I said previously, we would have to create one uniform global culture in order for everyone to agree on what is right and wrong. An individual may be able to decide for themselves, but the external factors of a society will always prevent everyone from reaching the same conclusion. People have proven time after time to be too controlled by their heritage and desire for wealth or personal gain, unable to phase these cultural influences even after tens of generations.
