My heavenly friend

So there I was, taking out the trash at Quizno's when I chanced to view the last remnants of sunlight fading over the western horizon. There was a peculiar bright light! "Let's see," I thought, "Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky...and there he is next to Orion, but this new light far outshines even Sirius! God? Alien? nope...certainly a planet!" I stared, transfixed, gazing at another world. I went home, did some research, and concluded that I had made a sighting of Venus, my new heavenly friend.

Gazing passively at the night sky is fun, I've found out, but pinpointing specific objects is even better! I think I have a new hobby!...And it feels goooooood.

i was gettin a little excited then thinking i might have seen the same thing, and that you were about to reveal you had observed some craft or cosmological phenomena...

but yeah, it was probably venus... aparantly more "ufo" sightings are of venus than anything else, even planes! idk how true that is or where i got it from tho.

my collection of constelations i can identify if i spot them is increasing, as is the number of stars i know the names we've given them.

and when i can't see the stars, its off to K-Stars or Celestia for even more digital skygazing fun. or any of the hundreds of astronomy websites out there.

but it's just not the same as actually being there to see it.

like when u take a picture of a sunset that has taken your breath away, and then you can't even tell why you took the picture when you see it.

mmm... stars.

It's sad- where I live you cannot see many stars.

I do like looking at them when I can actually see them.

satellite

On a related note, I think I just saw a satellite cross the sky. It was kind of random; I just glanced out of the window and watched a light slowly move across the night sky, then it slowly faded away as it moved east.

I love watching satellites, they look so cool "flying" across the sky. The best, however, is the International Space Station! If you want to catch it, take a look at the following site.

Space is awesome, is it not?
