I like to think that there isn't anything in this world that isn't nature, or natural. We speak of "nature" as though it's anything that isn't human. Humans are absolutely parts of nature, and are as natural as can be. The clothes on our back are natural, the food we eat is natural, the "fake" boobs we like to flop our dicks around in are natural, the weed we smoke is natural, the homes we live in are natural...
You may scream till your face turns blue that "marijuana is nature, it grows in nature." So is heroin, MDMA, cheese, cowhide, aluminum, gold and every other substance or corporal object on this good green earth. What you may perhaps mean is that marijuana doesn't require any combination of other substances, you can throw a seed in the natural ground and a natural plant comes up assuming the correct natural circumstances are applied to promote the growth of this natural plant. Well if it isn't natural, how'd it get here? Two things may come together to form something conceived as "unnatural," but how did those two things get here? Things don't just come out of nowhere. Everything starts somewhere, therefore everything is natural, whether through addition of other forms of nature, subtraction of other natural forms, or other mixtures and combinations of these original chemicals and substances. cheers Last edited by chipcago; 10-29-2006 at 11:44 PM. yeah, "nature" is a word that when contemplated on can extend far further than something seperate and external to the human made city of concrete and electricity.
one concept suggested by terrence mckenna which i like (makes me chuckle), is that like us humans (pedal life forms) who have created machines to ferry us about (for procreation?), we humans we similarly created by plants to ferry about their seeds. the blurred lines can be more obviously seen below the water line, where many plantlike species exist with more apparant conscious activity, or independant movement. but be aware, with this extension of the meaning of natural, we would be wise to cautiously observe the distinction between a symbiotic relationship and a parasitic one. |
