Jesus a Little Late
Good idea for a thread although I can't see it ending well. I'll start with the passage that C.S. Lewis--the very Christian author of the Chronicles of Narnia--called "the most embarrassing verse in the Bible", Matthew 24:34 / Luke 21:32:

The thing with the Bible is that it was written by a bunch of people over different spans of time. There are bound to be contradictions. Essentially it's interpretations on storys and things of that nature that were written down and bound together in a book. It told of a lot of laws for the time (like banishing a woman while she is on her priod) and tried to explain things without science on their side (ie. creationism.) What can be taken from the Bible shouldn't be anything literal but ideas. It's prety obvious that science is much more credible compared to a story of God creating the earth in like a week. What we have to keep in mind is that science can only go so far and in a way, we're still in the position of having to let go and understand that there are powers beyond our control regardless of what God/Gods you worship.

Genesis chapter one states God created man (mankind not specifically Adam) after creating animals. Genesis chapter two says God created Adam and then created animals to keep him company. Then God created Eve.

With all due respect, that's not what Genesis Chapter 2 says. It says that God saw that man was lonely, he had sent all the animals to him to be named by him, then he put Adam to sleep and created Eve out of his rib. As far as I can see while I'm rushing, Eve is the only creation in this chapter. But certainly not animals. They're created in chapter 1 and only chapter 1.

Genesis Chapter 1 view chapter one like a summary before the book. Genesis Chapter 2 1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, Verse number 3 is actually the end of the summary. Verse 4 is the opening to a new part of the story. View chapter 2 as the Act 1 whereas Chapter 1 is the narrator. Looking from this point of view you'll find it easier to understand. So for the most part Verse 4 is mainly concentrating on the 5th day. So to summarize Chapter 1 is a summary of what God did and on what day all thru verse 3 of Chapter 2. Verse 4 of Chapter 2 is a start to a new story which Concentrate on the 5th day of creation. Hope that helped ![]()
