I need some help here.
I have a router with two outgoing ethernet cables. One goes into my pc, the other into my PS3. However, when I try to use both at the same time, neither works. The PS3 gets a flashing error in the top right of the screen saying that an ethernet cable is not connected. The same thing happens to the pc. When I remove the cable from one device or turn it off, the other device works fine.
Any ideas on what I can do to get both working simultaneously?

What model router do you have? Have you tried using different port combinations or have you only tested the same two ports? Do you have a static IP set on either machine? Try restarting your router to reset the dhcp service.

I resetted the browser and it seems to work now. I hope it will stay working, I'll leave the pc and ps3 turned on for a while to see what happens.

It worked for a few hours and then it acted up again. I had to reset it twice and now it's working again. I tried using different port combinations, to no avail. I don't know if I have a static IP, how can I check?
This is what it says on my router:
Sitecom wireless network broadband router 54G
Model number: NL-160 v1 001

You could always just run your PS3 using the wireless.

True, but a wired connection is more stable.

If your PC has an extra ethernet port, just plug your ps3 into that, then go to network and sharing center, change adapter settings, control+click on local area connection plus the wifi one, then right click on one of them and hit "bridge connection". Then just give your PS3 a random IP address so it doesn't have an IP conflict with the computer

The IP I use on my xbox when doing this is: 192.168.77.254, it was originally set up as 192.168.77.1, but I always got an IP conflict with the laptop, and it would kick me offline. Just change the last set of numbers to 2-254, not going over 254

Does that mean my pc has to be on in order for the ps3 internet to work?

edit:I don't have an extra ethernet port.

Yeah, it has to be on and connected to the internet.

If you don't have an extra ethernet port, you can get one of those wireless receivers that hooks up via USB 2.0, then use your ethernet port for the ps3.

Do you think the router is the problem? Because this job is exactly what routers are made for, no? Maybe I should just buy a new one if this one isn't doing what it's supposed to do.

The router itself im sure works fine its most likely the shitty software they put on it. I know AT&T routers have given me and many others tons of headaches. I would try setting a static IP for your PS3 and computer and see if that fixes it, thats what i did for my x-box when i was using a at&t router and it seemed to fix it.

I'll try that and mess around with the settings of the router a little, see if I can fix this. Thanks for your help.
