not sure if it goes here but tv/remote sync problem?

so ive had my tv since january and ever since i got cable, the remote only works for one. For example if i turn on the tv before the cable box, the cble wont turn on until i turn off the tv and then turn the cable on first. also the cable box will not let me change the channel or anything having to do with cable, im only able to turn the tv off. I called up dish network and asked them why this was and they didnt really have a solution and at the end of the convo the man said it could possibly be that my tv is like absorbing the signal or like throwing it off. i have a 32" and the cable box is right next to it. any help?

Sorry, I don't have DirectTV. You probably need to find the manual for the remote you have, and just reprogram it from scratch according to the directions.

Are you using the TV's remote or the remote that came with your cable box?

Does the cable remote have a switch between cbl/tv? some remotes you have to hold that button for a few seconds to actually switch between the cable box and TV. I had a similar problem. Sometimes my cable box remote would work the tv and sometimes it wouldn't. Later figured out I had to hold down the switch button for 2 seconds to actually switch from the box to tv.
