Could my lights be to close to my plants?

They are 15 days in from sprouting, but at about 6 days i had a heat problem and they got burned, but all thats fixed now, i know they slowed down quite a bit but now they are going in full force again. They are under 5X 23 watt 6500k CFLs and 2X 2700k CFLs right now.... the bulbs are all above and the closest two are about 3 inches from the plants... next two are 5 inches etc etc. Soil is MG potting soil.

For all I know these are completely normal, but I find it seems like the plants aren't spreading out at all, should the leaves extend out a little further before the next grow in?

Every strain has different traits.....IMO, it's still early in the game to worry about leaf spread etc. Let them get a good foothold and they'll surprise the hell out of you. I think you've got the lights at the proper distance. Good luck!

They look really small for 15 days.

Raise the lights to like 10-12 inches and see how they respond.

Do you know how hot it is at plant level?

Like I said though they were halted for like 5-6 days from to much heat, but that is resolved and has been for 7 days. And at plant level it only gets to about 78 degrees, all the lights are hanging with an exhaust fan right behind, so they just barely feel warm even to touch

I guess just give them time then. Recovery in soil is usually a slow process, especially burns like that.

I bet you could start new seeds and they would outgrow those soon, or maybe give them competition to start growing again. Who knows...

Re: Could my lights be to close to my plants?

Yep, usually I'm used to faster turn arounds in hydro, but soil can take a while before things start looking better. When they start to turn around it usually goes fast from there.

I had a sick clone/mom and put her in new soil and she didn't grow at all for about 10 days and now she's taking over the closet...

heh but like I said they completely stopped growing for 4-6 days and I mean 100% STOP. But now it seems to be full force for the last 3 days

Re: Could my lights be to close to my plants?

They didn't stop growing from heat, they are nute burned from that soil. Seedlings do not like MG soil, the nutes are way too strong. Sometimes you'll get a weak bag and survive but in general,.....cooked.

Those cfl's should be inches away.

Re: Could my lights be to close to my plants?

To me they look overwatered/drowned, under lit, and nutrient burnt. Just a little bit of each all contributed to a massive amount of stress. Sometimes though, just because a plant isn't growing up doesn't mean it isn't growing. Minimal ammounts of vitamins in a soil could cause your plants to focus energy on root structures rather than foliage.

Get a fan directly on them to strengthen the stems and the capillaries to transport more nutrients to the canopy. Keep those CFLs at a min of 1" away and a maximum of 3" away. Allow the soil to go completely dry before establishing a regular watering schedule. Don't spray them with anything.

Time.

Re: Could my lights be to close to my plants?

Transplanted them into bigger pots that actually have good drainage in Shults potting soil. How long until they recover from this and start growing full force? Oh and the roots on the plants almost filled the party cups! Does it matter if some of the old soil got in with the new stuff?
