brownish roots

Alright I'm having a pretty hard time figureing out whats going on here... at first there was a very thick white/clear slime engulfing all of my roots... so i dumped the res and sanitized it a week ago. Now the past couple days i have noticed a brown kind of slime that clumps the roots together. The roots themselves arent brown just the slime on them. I have a 25 gallon res lightproofed and all with aluminum tape. res temps are from 77-80 degrees. Im using about a 300ppm nute mix with BC grow and BC boost. (1tsp boost .5tsp grow/gal) about a drop of superthrive per gallon. I also added a tsp per gallon of H2O2 3% when i cleaned the res. But I recently learned that it dissapates fairly quickly...but my clear thick slime hasnt returned. Should I be worried? Also It should be noted that the plants seem to be doing fine from the top... no discoloration normal grow patterns...for now =(

Re: brownish roots

it may be the PH of the water, do you know what the PH of your water is?

I try to keep it between 5.5-6.5. I cleaned the roots off today and the brown shit that came off smelled very strongly of superthrive. Does superthrive tend to do this?

I'm pretty sure the ideal pH for hydro is 5.2-5.8 increasing from 5.2 as the plant grows. Could someone correct me if im wrong.

Re: brownish roots

yes super thrive will do that... its a bio film, pick up food grade hydrogen peroxide (32% not 3% that comes in the brown bottle, most hydro stores sell it) it will oxygenate the water and keep it clean
and ph for hydro is 5.5-6.5, 5.8-6.0 being ideal

just to make sure that film being there isnt detrimental to my plants in anyway right?

also i cleaned most of it off... shaking the roots in some water cant get the real dense stuff off thats closest to the pot, and i dont wanna soak the rockwool down there on accident... any1 have a better way of cleaning roots?

Re: brownish roots

biofilm is a build up of macroscopic microorganisms, meaning a cluster of bacteria fungus, archaea, algea, and protozoa, stuff like that, it can be harmfull i know in humans it can cause microbial infections, but it is also used to treat polluted bodys of water, and breaks down raw sewage. do more research on it. i dont think its bad for the roots since ur not introducing anything nasty in ur reservoir. its just the enzymems in the super thrive
good luck

I just rinsed them off and it hasnt come back, and the root development seems to be going faster.
