Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Hi There,

info first I guess
  • Hydro or Soil B&Q (home Depot) All purpose Compost Flushed before use.
  • Type of light? 3 x 30W CFL 6400K 2 x60W CFL 2700K wih reflector 20/4
  • "Atmosphere" Conditions Temp range between 73 and 83
  • Waterings Plants is 3l pots, watering every 3-4 days (when soil is dry at 1.5'') Tap Water
  • PH Range Ph 6.9, Runoff 7.0
  • Nutrients/Supplements Plant Magic+ Soil Grow (ingr: Humate, Magnesium Calcium, trace elements) N2 P0.4 K3 at 1.2ml per litre once used once so far, 7 days ago
  • Pictures if possible! Pictures below
  • Design and Dates 4 Plants in a 900mm x 900mm x 400mm MDF homemade box, first grow, plants are approx 18 days from sprout.
I have looked at lots of the posts about sickness and the standard newb over nuting is the usual advice. I hadn't seen anything that looked exactly like this though and although the pH is slightly high (ph up and down is on it's way) the other 3 plants are doing really well and have had the exact same treatment.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, full journal of the grow can be found in my signature

Thanks is advance

J

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Wow, no replys yet,

I have spent literally hours now poring over any sick plant information I can find and I'm still not shedding much light on the problem!

Grr!

From what i've read it seems more likely to be a deficiency than a nute burn problem, my pH is running on the high side so I'm in the process of adjusting that at the moment, hopefully that will sort it out and I can get back on the nutes.

Seems strange that the others are doign so well (and they are) and this one's not. She is the runt, but hopefully I can save her!

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Hope someone has some answers soon!

I've got a couple of better close up pictures which might help.

It does seem to be getting worse but is only affecting that one plant.

I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you but i'm having the same problem. One of my first set of leaves started turning yellow with brown spots now one of my fan leaves is looking a lot like your pictures.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Wel Maybe now there's two of us with the problem someone will know.

I've looked at literally hundreds of pictures and none of them seem to quite match up.

I'll be checking my pH tomorrow not that it's been adjusted, then I'll give that one a shot of nutes as it looks more like a dificiency than an over nuting.

I also found a bug on one of my other plant's so I've given them a spray with some soap water.

It only seems to be affecting those leaves though.

Very strange!

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

it looks like a potassium deficiency i had the same thing happen like a couple weeks ago
my plants were suffering just the same way they also had a phosphorus deficiency

but they looked just like the pics youve posted .

i fed em some bloom nutes and molasses and it cleared it right up . you should get on it though because the spots will spread and kill your plant

1-2 tbl spoons molasses a gallon very other feeding should keep you good on potassium

good luck

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Thanks so much for the answer,

I really did think it seemed like a defniciency.

I've got bloom feed at home so i'll give them some tomorrow within the watering schedule and I'll get some molasses in there too.

Did the spots actually go away on yours?

+rep for the help!

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Well the sick one's had some bloom feed and molasses. the others just had their normal watering but with a very weak dose of molasses in there too.

This is also the first properly pH adjusted watering they've had, and man is ph down effective! Couple of tiny drops will easily lower a litre by .7-1.0

I'll be testing the runoff once they've had a good drain, it was running over 7 before but I should be able to drop it down o around 6.0-6.5 over the next week.

Then they'll have no excuse.

The bulbs also arrived yesterday although one is the wrong fitting so it's gone back, soon I'll have the 300 watts I was shooting at.

Hopefully all will be well and they'll keep going from strength to strength

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

i have the same problem too. I just posted today before I saw this thread. I guess I will feed with some mollases and tiger bloom, and hope for the best. I was hoping it wasnt over nute because I do like to start feeding heavier and heavier as flowering starts, but I was holding off just in case I had too much nute.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

i would wait til soil is dry, thoroughly flush the plant with the last bit of water containing a drop or 2 of SuperThrive. after the soil is dry from flushing, start the molasses at full strength but the nutes at very low dosage the first time after flush.

did ur plant ever wilt early on to the extent that leaf touched the soil or was ever in contact with water on the leaf from pouting water? looks like water sat there almost. so, my answer is the safe answer. before adding nutes which could be the problem already, i'd flush & start fresh. good luck. also, maybe posting a pic of the whole plant would give us more clues.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Hey Boombata,

Thanks for the advice, I did give her a good flush on wednesday.

I've just added the molasses today.

She never drooped at all and definitely wasn't in contact with the soil or had any water left on her.

Hopefully this will clear it up. I'll put up a pic of the whole plant tomorrow.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Looks like a magnesium deficiency to me. If adding molasses doesn't stop it from spreading try adding epsom salt (1/4-1/2tsp per gallon of water). Molasses is great stuff though so even if u see it it is not solving your problem just add it along side the epsom salt. Also for the life of your plant don't even think about using table/sea salt u will kill your plant. Epsom salt is very easy to find in the personal hygiene section of nearly any store best part of all is its hella cheap to most u will pay is only a buck and a half for a pound.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Thanks for the input,

I'm going to see if the molasses works it's magic this week, if not I'll add some epsom salts.

No idea why I'd be putting table salt on, Epsom salts is Magnesium Sulfate, table salt is sodium chloride, there's no magnesium in it.

I'd left of the magnesium so far as my nutrients do contain it.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

I am having problems myself. I flushed my plants (white widow, bubble gum, and flo)
and I will start with molases. The humidty in my room is at 49% with using co2. So along with nute burn, the humidty is causing the curled leaves I guess. The plants are 24 days into flowering. I hope I can save my plants. Any suggestions would be cool. This is only my second grow. When the temperature is 90 one week, then 28 with snow the following week, it's hard to control those conditions.

Re: Brown Spots on plant, with Pictures Please Help!

Well here's some more pictures now of the whole plant.

It's a bit early to tell if the molasses or the bloom feed has worked.

ANy advice let me know.

It does seem to look more like nute burn now but that wasn't how it started.
