16day old seedlings , yellowing, brown spots

Hey.. I have 4 plants in 16oz cups with FFOF... watered every 4 days, no nutes

3 of the 4 plants have their lower leaves yellowing, and 1 of 3 yellowing plants are showing brown spots.

Im not sure what this means... out of the 4 ... 1 is completely healthy with no issues..

here are pics and video..

Re: 16day old seedlings , yellowing, brown spots

Let them go...as they get older they can handle the hot soil. It looks like previous over watering damage. Possibly N lockout from a bad Ph? Just watch them and get them into real pots soon... How's the drainage in those cups?

I dont think I over watered them... I gave about 50-60 ml every 4 days...
the PH could be a possibility.. my testing kit is those indicator droplets, and I try my best to get it spot on with 6.5... but you can never tell with the million shades of green.

I was going to do real pots in 2 more weeks (4 weeks total from seed)

and alright.. I will let it be...

I was thinking I should atleast flush the soil or something.

Flushing the soil won't really do anything because you haven't used outside nutes so there isn't a nute salt buildup to flush. It's not just nuts burn though. Your oh is def off because I can see signs of secondary nute problems.

Question Re: 16day old seedlings , yellowing, brown spots

I'm DEFINITELY no expert so, I'm just trying to kick around ideas right now to help you out. You say they've been watered every 4 days, how long have they been in those party cups? I don't know for sure, but could this be an early sign of being "root bound"??? Especially since it APPEARS they're putting on their 5th leaf set? Like I said, I'm no expert so, that was just my first impression from the pics.
Good Luck!

Good Luck!

they have been in the party cups since the beginning. (18days) I was told to wait atleast 3 weeks from everyone...

but here is a pic of the roots at 16 days... so you can get an idea of it. and naturally they are a tad bigger today at (18days)

I thought if the problem is nute burn, putting it in a bigger pot would only make it worse right?

Re: 16day old seedlings , yellowing, brown spots

You DO know that roots don't like the dark?

Those clogged drainage holes don't drain very well either.

Get it into a REAL pot...ASAP.

I had this same issue with FFOF on all of my seedlings so far. As e3ment said, it's RICH, but they will eventually overcome it. In my opinion, which doesn't mean much, I would assume it's just the rich soil.

What?.... I was always told that roots HATE light as they will burn?...

and the clogged drainage holes still drain real well.. I only put it there because roots were growing out of the holes in as little as 5days old.

but yes... Real pot is coming asap... within a day or 2.

Re: 16day old seedlings , yellowing, brown spots

+1 to this, it may be a N deficiency, however ff soil is Rich as everyone says, i believe it may be a pH issue or Mg problem.

what color are the stems with the yellowing leaves?

after thinking about it;
16day seedlings
yellowing leaves (NOT the veins, but the leaf) - interveinal yellowing.
curling UP
brown rust colored spots on older/middle aged leafs (2nd set of leaves has the spotting)

i think it may be a Mg problem, (however this usually happens later (4-5weeks in), so i've read) which can be traced to a couple of issues:

root environment is too wet/cold or acidic/cold
i see you have the "pots" really close to that fan, what temperatures are you running?
what temp is your soil?
what ph is your soil?
pH of your water? are you using regular tap water/distilled/etc etc...

Magnesium can also become trapped if there is too much N in the soil. resulting in these symptoms.

I believe using a garden grade epsom salt (magnesium sulfate @ 2tsp/gallon) might help you. a mist/spraying will help you get over this quickly, if i am correct.

take it for what its worth, im on my first grow as well. Hopefully this helps.

You're right of course...wrong word...got a buzz going...oops! They won't burn, they'll turn into stem...or something like it...making chlorophyll. It's ready for a transplant. They'll be fine...don't do anything drastic. Put some dolomite lime in with the soil when you transplant.

Re: 16day old seedlings , yellowing, brown spots

Ocean Forest burned all my gardens the last year.. they must not be curing the mulch long enough or something... I had the same scenario as you with the leafs.. but the plants eventually get out of it. Just don't even add nutes to the FFOF soil.. A bit of MG might help, but I would transplant into a larger container and wait a couple more weeks and see it they get happy.
Also, I woud PH my water at 5.9 - 6 rather than 6.5. And try not to use chlorinated water either.
A 6.5 PH can easily jump up when mixed into the siol since the soil is hot.
2 cents from Pepe...
By the way, I now use FF Happy Frog and the babies seem to be kickin it!! when they seem like they need a boost I will begin them on the FF 3 organic liquid concentrates in their water.. Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, and Big Bloom
It worked great last time around.
except for the damed spider mite attack at the end... WAHHHH!!!
