Well, those numbers always depend on how accurate your test equipment is. If your equipment is decent (at least some chemical droplets) then the results you get are pretty much right. If your runoff had been 6 or 5.5, that's what your result would've been.
The soil is what makes that runoff Ph drop...your soil is a bit acidic, which is why it comes out a whole point lower, but that's okay because 6.5 is the number you want to be at. Over time both the runoff and the regular water should be balanced at 6.5 for best results.
The water Ph directly affects the soil/runoff Ph...If your soil is acidic, the runoff Ph will be lower than the regular water Ph, but over time they will balance out...this will usually occur gradually with regular waterings, but during flushing the Ph can change rather rapidly (which is what flushing is meant for).
Sorry if that was confusing, I lost myself in that...Ph is still a "new" thing for me to be tinkering with, but I hope I explained that well.
