Bug Problems!?

Hey thanks in advance for the help, I have been growing 13 trainwreck/???, they have been growing for about 4 weeks under 2-40 watt (48inch) fluorescents in 6inch wide pots (2.76 liters) with an organic medium now and i have noticed some definite bug action going on the past couple of days in the soil and have not had the resources to take care of it. At first when problems started to arise it was not bugs it was deficiency problems in about most my plants besides a few that looked like they were doing fine. I soon got nutes and they started looking a whole lot healthier, but then when i was watering them i noticed the bug action going on (spider mites for sure maybe other types) and then started looking closer at my plants and realized some of the leaves had tint yellow veins still. When i came home from work today I also noticed this weird white almost powder like substance in really small traces on top of the soil (only in two of the pots, which also have the least if not no bug action going on that i have seen), I might also add that its happening in a pot with i think to be my most healthy plant. Any Ideas??? most appreciated

I now that there other threads out there but no one has responed and this problem of mine will get out of control if i dont do something about it fast. SO PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

Re: Bug Problems!?

i can, i don't know if it will show the problems to well for the insects are really tiny also the white stuff on top of the soil, could that be natural for organic soil to do that if its starting to dry out? I also i.D. a new bug it looks to be a white translucent spider, i have only spotted one and it was about the same size as the mites. There still looking healthy as ever...but i'm definitely waiting for the shit storm to happen ( the pics are for mostly to see how healthy they are compared to the problems i'm listing) my pug is sad...he wants some dank..lol

Re: Bug Problems!?

They wanted pictures of the bugs, not your plants. That is why you haven't gotten any responses.

Re: Bug Problems!?

hey, to sort your bug problems you need to use some kinda of repellent you need to get on top of those spidermites quick! heres a sticky for making your own insecticides etc
http://forum.grasscity.com/organic-g...ungicides.html

as for the white power the first thing that comes to mind is mold of some sort, if it is, it would be a good idea to clean down your whole grow space, & repot the plant(s) with new soil from an external source(eg sealed bag from garden center) a good way to avoid mold problems is to let the soil dry out well between waterings, the plants also like this, having constantly damp soil will encourage mold growth

your plants do look healthly in your pics although they are stretched for light, im sure you know you need ALOT more light to support all those plants also it looked like some are in the same pot, they need to have their own pots, or the roots will grow entangled very quick making them inseperible & can die off easyly

Re: Bug Problems!?

I've posted this before, it's a good preventative maintenance program.(This is copied and pasted from another post I made)

Quote:
If you treat your plants with any product that contains Spinosad you'll prevent problems from most leaf eating insects. I use Monterey Garden Insect Spray but there are others on the market that contain it also.

Use 2 tbsp/qt and apply every 7-10 days. You also want to use a wetting agent/surfactant like DM's Penetrator or AN's Wet Bettty. This stuff is a bacteria that is rated organic. It colonizes on the plant and any leaf eating insect or caterpillar that tries to eat your plant gets sick and dies.

If you use it from the beginning, you'll prevent any problems. If mites are introduced to your space, they'll try to eat and will die before they reproduce.
Hopefully, this info is helpful........another protocol you can follow is to routinely foliar spray your plants with neem oil, especially during veg. I like Einstein Oil....it has neem and a host of different micro nutrients that are beneficial to your plant's health. I usually spray once a week, then alternate with the Spinosad once a week.

Good luck on annihilating those fuckers!

Re: Bug Problems!?

thanks for the helpful info guys, ya i know i need more light i'm about to get hps & Mh here in the next couple of days, for the more than one plant per pot thing i ran out of soil so i put them in jiffy seedling pots and buried them half way for a precautionary purpose of not letting light get to the roots, they are all in new pots now in some fresh organic soil.

I also got some insecticide to maintain control of pests... its seems to be working . What I did for the mold problem is i scraped off an inch or so of the soil on top to see if i could get rid of much spores as possible and then put fresh soil on top (Do you guys think that was a "good" or "bad" idea?), i'm also making sure the soil almost completely drys up in between waterings as you said..the same thing popped in my mind.

on the lighting issue. Do you think I should also get a another Florescent light setup along with the hps & Mh?

Also for "MrBooMY" read what i said in the post above..And i qoute

"i don't know if it will show the problems to well for the insects are really tiny also the white stuff on top of the soil".

I took the pictures just so people could see if they could spot problems with my setup and help me out...

Once again guys thanks for the help I will definitely put the info to use, I'll post again if I need help...peace and sweet dreams
