First Grow going Slow but dont know why?

Hi.

I have recently started a Lowryder2 Grow. i have planted two seeds in soil. they both sprouted within afew days but since then not much has happened. it has now been 15 days since the seeds first sprouted out of the ground and they are not alot bigger than they where at that point. They have their first set of gagged leaves and you can see the next set just starting to develop. i have looked at loads of grow diaries on the web of the lowryder2 strain and after this amount of time for everyone else i have seen their plants are twice as big as mine or more.

I have got them growing in a grow box i made myself under a 125w dual Spectrum CFL. i have an exhaust fan drawing air out of the box. the temp in the box is about 26 to 27 C and the humedity is around 50. i have kept the soil moist with water (Tap water) i dont think i have over watered them but maybe i have? I started them in their final large pots as i thought it would be easier that way rather than keep repotting them as they get bigger. is this a problem? The soil i used was a john higgings house plant potting compost. i suppose i could have got something better than this but i was planning on feeding the plants on a grow/bloom firt once they got going so didnt think it would matter to much.

Any ideas as to what i should do or why the are growing slowly would be very helpfull as at the moment i think everything i am doing is fine but at this rate there is no way they will be fully grown in the 2 months they apparently take to grow

You're watering them way too much. They don't need water until the soil is dry 2'' down. Probably not more than every 4 days. Mine did the same thing and I realized it was because I was over watering them.

How close are your lights? They may not be close enough to reach the pants.

Re: First Grow going Slow but dont know why?

hi. thanks for the info. i was wondering about the water myself so i havent watered for acouple of days now and it seems to be growing faster. i think i will do what you said and not water them for another couple of days. the lights are about 45cm away from the plants. it is only a small area i am using all covered in mylar so i think they should be getting enough light. I didnt want to put the light to close to them incase they got to hot. i have turned the fan up abit also to try and keep the temperature at 26 or lower as i have read anything higher than 26 is not ideal.

I will post again after afew days with results and pictures

DUDE ur lights are too far away?

Cfls are spose to be placed about 2-4 inches from the plant? Put your hand under the light globe when its turned on.. If its warm on your hand it may be a little close but if its almost just normal then thats how close you will want the globe.. Usually between 2-4inchs..

I would bet it's more than likely equivalent.

You need about twice that for EACH plant. Plus, the lights need to be about 2-4'' from the plants. Keep the fan running to keep 'em cool.

That's why I asked. Stickies folks! Read the darn stickies, then read them again, and again.

Re: First Grow going Slow but dont know why?

hi. the bulb i am using is a 125watt envirolight dual spectrum. so its actually 125watts not 125w equivilant. i thought this should be enough for acouple of plants in a box the size i have after looking at other peoples grows using lights like this. it gets quite warm when on (to hot to hold comftably) so i was abit worried about getting it too close. i will drop it down abit tho and just keep an eye on it.

thanks for the info

Re: First Grow going Slow but dont know why?

Hi, using the same has you and mine are slow. Bulb 3in above and fan blowing over.I think the dual enviros are hotter than just a blue and they might be to hot at a close distance. I use a 300 blue enviro for veg on my big bangs at 3in away and it is cooler than the dual over the plants, and they grow well.I think next time I will use a 125 blue at first and then add some small energy savers cfl as most in uk are warm white the same colour as the red in a envirolite and much cheaper.
