Plants not sprouting!

i just started 4 germinated seeds under a 150w HPS (i know that 150w is not enough to grow 4 plants, but i plan on only growing 1-2) I planted the seeds in a solo cup with scotts potting soil. I did not mix perlite or sand in the soil. I know that Fox Farm has much better soil, but there are no hydroponic stores near me, and i needed to get the seeds in soil asap. The seeds have been under light for 4 days now, and none have sprouted. What should i do?

Re: Plants not sprouting!

sometimes it can take up to a whole week to sprout. u may have planted the seed upside down and its using its energy to flip over. or u may have over watered and it rotted.

Re: Plants not sprouting!

i use the paper towel zip lock bag method some will say not to but its always work fastest for me as i've germinated seeds in many different ways just be carefull with the tap root and your all good . something to try next time anyway so you can kind of see what works faster for you i moist the towles so there damp not soaked, throw em in a zip lock place in warm dark spot check it every couple days or so. just give your seeds time they should pop up

Re: Plants not sprouting!

It's going to take a bit longer for sprouting as they're going to have to germinate in the soil. I believe it would have been faster using the paper towel method. Just wait it out, I've had seeds that took a week to germinate lol. Talking about anxious

I germinate the same as Herb mentioned, fold some paper towels in a tupperware container, moisten the paper toils on the bottom, place your seeds onto it, then cover them up with another paper towel, and moisten them too. You'll want them wet but not pouring with water. Germinating can take a day to a week.

Re: Plants not sprouting!

i did germinate the seeds and i used the paper towel method. It took about 2 days for the seeds to germinate in the paper towel. After 2 days, all the seeds had sprouted a tap root. I then placed the seeds in the soil (tap root down). It has been 5 days now and still nothing.

Re: Plants not sprouting!

it also depends on how heavily your soil is fertilized, there's special seedling soil available in garden stores that has no added ferts at all for a reason...
but i'd also agree with the above guys and say just be patient, there isn't much you can do about the soil anymore at this point, and sometimes seeds take up to two weeks to finally break the surface

Re: Plants not sprouting!

If you have the light on it might have dried out the soil.. putting plastic over the top of the soil for the first day or 2 (no longer or u can get mold) can stop it from drying out before they sprout.
