Is this an over watering problem?

This is seedling about 3 weeks old. Papaya strain. Growing under two compact fluorescents for now (about 70W total). Temperature in grow cab is 81F. About 70% R.H. From the pictures you can see two brownish spots on the larger leaves. Also, the newest growth is a little droopy and growing a bit slow. I know the lighting is weak, but I just want to grow the plant to take clones from for now. Does anyone know what would cause these spots or slow/droopy growth?

Re: Is this an over watering problem?

First of all patna...wat kind of soil is it in?

also u need more than 70w of light...give that at least 100w..

looks like ur using the 2700k range of CFL...for veg u need to be up by 6700k. make sure u change that.

go out to ur local hardware store and get a cheap pH/moisture meter and thatyll help with the watering alot. u wanna wait till the bottom of the soil is dry so the roots search for the water to the bottom.

depending on wat kind of soil its in, u might be in need of some nutes for it.

heres a site u can browse through and see wats really wrong with her (hopefully) and how to fix it

Re: Is this an over watering problem?

Lighting
Sorry, i was wrong with the lighting. One of the CFL's is a 14W daylight (>5000K) and the other CFL is 26W Soft white light (~2800K). So its 40W total. I'm not sure if this is correct, but some sources say that this is equivalent to ~160W of regular light. Either way, I have mothered a plant under about 30W of CFL light before and it did really well.

Soil
I am using E.B. Stone Organics potting soil. Its pretty dense and doesn't seem to have the best drainage. A little bit of water has been in the tray for about 3 days. Does this sound like it would cause the problems in the pics?

Also, have any ideas what might be going on with the brown spots? Thanks for the help.

Re: Is this an over watering problem?

They def. look over watered, and that soil doesn't look too good.. Optimally, you would want 20%-30% perlite for drainage, I would transplant to some better soil stat. Try to get it under 50 watts for veg and 100-125 watts for flower if you want a decent yield. What are you watering it with?

Re: Is this an over watering problem?

Heh, i had same problem even with MH bulb. I had similar leaf look. The bottom leaves were yelow, and I didnt look under the leaf. There was hundreds of SpiderMites and eggs. They dont appear on top of the leaf. Only under. They feed them selves with big bottom leaves only. Try to look under leaves. That is a pain in the ass if you caught that.... They suck all good from the plant so the plant has stunted growth.

I am not saying this is the case on your plant, but also look for that. My conditions are IDEAL... but spider mites come to the plant somoehow and FUCKED IT pretty well till I noticed it.

Also, I had overwatering problem, not because I was doing it often, but the holes on the pot were tiny, so water couldn't drain on time.

I water my plants every 7 days, till the soil is almost full dry, and plants are looking great now.

Godd luck
