So, I have been looking around for some info to put my mind at rest, but I can't seem to find what I need... I think what I need is a good pair of eyes. Dude I have growing my plant seems to think it is a hemp plant. Now, I could have sworn that I was told my plant looked indica.. isn't hemp sativa? Or does it look sativa? I do not have a clue how to discern the differences between the two.

Hemp typically refers to the non-drug application of cannabis. So it isn't indica versus hemp, it's indica versus sativa. The confusion probably comes from the usage of hemp to refer to sativas that have very low THC content and are used for industrial applications.

Your plant appears to be hybrid. Understand I'm guessing here, but I would put that plant at around 50/50 (50% indica, 50% sativa).

Its not that I am wondering whether its sativa or indica, its the fact that I don't know if its gonna be the kind you can smoke or if its gonna be hemp! (It was found in my mother sunflowers and I have no idea how it got there, for all I know it could be a hemp seed that made its way into the sunflower batch) does this make sense? I guess I wont be able to tell until it buds or doesn't hmm.

Does wild hemp grow in your area? You can't normally distinguish hemp from normal cannabis just at a glance, they are the same exact species, hemp just doesn't contain any THC.

If wild hemp grows in your area it might be a possibility, if not, do you maybe smoke out there in the sunflowers? Or does your mother/parents? Plants pop up in my backyard in weird spots from time to time from seeds that were discarded while we were smoking back there.

I couldn't honestly tell you if it did or not, but it was suggested and I worry about it because I don't want to put a bunch of work into a plant that at most would be made into jewelry or something.. kinda lame if you ask me. If you read my first post in my grow journal you will see I explained how I thought it came about, and I think you're right and I am just being paranoid.

I just need some opinions you know, like I said, I am not finding much by searching around.

He's in Colorado. Industrial hemp is not used in the US (/cry), so that seed could have very well been mixed with sunflower seeds. I would have a hard time believing it would be viable, and most sunflower seeds come from the states anyway.

tf, I should have worded it like this;

Someone told me hemp was sativa, and I was told that my plant looked indica when I first found it. I am not worried about if its either of those I am worried about it being a hemp version and have been asking for ways to tell.

If this post is the reason you think your plant is hemp, then stop worrying any further. Hemp does not grow wild in Colorado, and the guy who mentioned hemp is dead wrong

And by the way, that plant is a mix between Indica and Sativa. Indicas have fat leaves, Sativas skinny little leaves. I have some Thai going right now, which are pure sativa, with leaves way skinnier than yours. Yours is in the middle leaning towards sativa dominant I'd say. Don't worry, you aren't growing jewelry plants little lady

Have you ever smoked weed that had seeds in that field? My bet would be you discarded a seed from a bag that ended up getting covered and germinating, has happened in my backyard several times. Have a good night.

Anyway, my advice is sound from the get-go! Industrial hemp is exclusively sativa. Your plant is a hybrid, about 50/50, but it's hard to pinpoint. You don't find industrial hemp in the US to my knowledge.
