What's the cause of this?

  • Hydro or Soil Soil FFOF (Started in MG, left MG around the root ball during transplant)
  • Type of light? 156w CFL, 4 6500k 2 2700k 18/6
  • "Atmosphere" Conditions Varies, mid 80's, humidity seems fine
  • Waterings tap water sits out over 24 hours, roughtly every 4 days, around less than half gallon for 3 gallon pot.
  • PH Range PH seems stable in the 6-6.5 range
  • Nutrients/Supplements No nutes until yesterday it was given 1/4th MG liquid plant food and molasses
  • Design and Dates Plant is 35 days old.
  • Other Started before nutes were given, it was very mild, thought it was likely due to lack of nutes. Became worse in the day after watering. The lower nodes are the worse, up top a few leaves have random yellowing spots. Looked like it could be potassium deficency to me, so I thought the nutes would help.
Is it nute burn agian? Seems a little different, sadly I only have my phone camera, hopefully it will be good enough for someone to tell.

Re: What's the cause of this?

Almost looks tho it needs sum nitrogen. Overall plant looks alittle pale green and yellow leaves and also i can't tell be it seems small for 35 days but i grow hydro so @ 35days i'am 2wks into flowering and about 2' tall. I know dirt is slower. I don;t see burnt leaves just a lack of green,so that's my OP. What ru using to test PH? 6.8 is the best place to be in soil @ that level all nutrients are absorbed!

adjust ph and add some nitrogen to the diet.

Re: What's the cause of this?

The nutes I just started using are MG liquid plant food 8-7-6, Should that be good or do I need to up the nitrogen more? I believe I read it takes about 4 days to see improvement normally. I know MG nutes suck, I just don't plan on staying in veg that much longer so I couldn't see spending the $20 for the FF veg nutes.

And yes she is small for her age, first grow stressed her a little bit too much. She just started coming along when this started, she is just over 6 inchs now, due to the restrictions of the box I'm growing in I will probably switch to flower at 8"-10" so I don't run out of room.

My ph tester are the drops that change the run off color so sadly I can't be very accurate, I'll test the PH, if it's too low what is something cheap or even something I may have laying around my house to raise it?

Re: What's the cause of this?

Ok I balanced my water back to around 6.5-6.8 it was way low I'm talking around 4.0. I used baking soda probably around a teaspoon maybe even less for a gallon I added a little at a time and tested it after every little add.

Next time I go get dog food I'll be picking up ph up/ down to fix it right, but the plant was getting real bad real fast.

Re: What's the cause of this?

I checked the run off again last night about 10 hours after I adjusted everything and it held strong in the 6.5 area. Growth has resumed, grew 1/4" to 1/2" overnight. Seems like the color is coming back, except on the bottom leaves that were pretty bad they are turning brownish, I'm guessing they got too damaged and will just die off.

The leaves are curling down but I'm thinking it's just from over watering trying to fix the PH.

But I brought pictures for some expert opinions.

I may be getting a little nute burn now that the ph lock is gone, the new growth has a tiny little discoloration at the very tip, maybe it was too close to the light though.

You can try a flush a few days after it has had time to stabilize to its new, more correct pH.

Re: What's the cause of this?

That's what I was thinking I would do, glad you confirmed it for me.

I'm getting scared she isn't going to make it. Those bottom leaves have become yellowish brown I think I'm just going to have to cut them off.

Almost all the leaves are curling down, what are other causes besides overwatered? The newest growth isn't curling down but folding up, what's the cause?

I took new pictures, I hope I can get all this sorted out, hopefully it is sorted out and I just need to be patient as it heals.

These are all from this morning, I tried my best to get good views for you guys. I added an open water jug to the box to try to up the humidity it was feeling pretty dry in there. I also took out a 2700k bulb because jcj said a 4:1 ratio is better than 2:1.

Re: What's the cause of this?

So I've been thinking about what I should do to try to fix this.

My plan is leave it till monday, soil should be pretty much dried out by then. Flush it, check the PH of the flush run off. Then for the last gallon use add no new molasses just what is left after I dump that water in the gallon already, and then only add 5-10 drops of the nutes, then if needed balence the PH out agian and water with that more pure water. I think I over did the molasses trying to stop the nitrogen defiency.

Hows it looking today?
Looks like it needs more food.

Re: What's the cause of this?

It's all but dead, there are pics from yesterday in my grow journal. The lowest leaves are crispy and falling off and there is no growth even after giving it a good amount of N.

This plant just took too much noob abuse I'm pretty sure.

I have another freshly planted seed hopefully it will have sprouted when I get home tonight.

I'll keep this living dead one going until it dies or I need the space for the replacement.
