purple voodoo germination problem

I got the beans from the Cali - bean bank. They were the smallest seeds i have ever seen in my life. Out of the 14 seeds that came in the pack only 5 germinated. I planted those like normal in small pot 1/2 inch down with root tip pointing down and watered (misted) with a spray bottle as usual. All perished. Not even one broke the surface.
They were treated like all the rest: sandwich dish - wet paper towel - kept at 70 degrees , etc. I have never had these problems before and my question is - has anyone had any dealings with this strain before? Is it more difficult to grow than most or did I just get bad beans?

I have: Black Domina, God Bud, Hindu Kush, Purple Kush, Train
Wreck and White Widow growing ATM. All were treated exactly the same and are rockin.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance; Puff

Re: purple voodoo germination problem

hmm maybe you shocked them during the transplant from paper towel to dirt. I usually let the roots grow through the towel a bit and then cut them out ( just cutting a square around the taproot leaving a piece of the towel on) and transplant them. That way you dont rip them off the towel. Then again could have just been bad beans, sorry for your loss dude, gl next time.

Re: purple voodoo germination problem

Yea idk? The roots weren't attached to the towl so no probs there. I went and got a pack of mendo madness from them so if these go the same way (south), it will be the last pack I buy from these guys.Hopefully not a waste of another $39.00 lol There are rows of clones there anyways. Thanks for the response.

Yea i uncovered them and they were caput!!!

i am leaning to the bad seed idea. they were so tiny anyways - the smallest i have ever seen in my life.

has any one ever played with these purple voodoo before? were your seeds tiny?

what do you mean caput?
they just hadnt cracked?

i'd put them in some luke warm water and put in a dark place and just leave em. ive grown seeds from year old, compressed, dried jungle weed like that.

Re: purple voodoo germination problem

caput - died, croaked, expired deceased. I was talking about the few that germinated and that I planted in the small pots.Yea they were in the dark. no they never dried out and yes they were bad beans cause I just picked up some Mendo Madness from the same place and all beans sprouted in just 2 days and are doing fine.
I thought the Purple Voodoo seeds looked really small but they were dark brown in color and looked viable. " Can't fool Mother Nature !! " lol
I saw some Voodoo clones for sale but they looked really sad. Maybe it is just the strain. Who knows.
So I have moved on to bigger and better things. Thanks all for the responses even though nobody else with Voodoo experience posted

Re: purple voodoo germination problem

dang, my bad brother, I should have spoke up sooner..

we purchased the same seeds, and we also bought some 'kushage (og kush X sage)', a total of 28 seeds, only two survived, both purple voodoo..

we had the same problems, smallest seeds we ever saw, split up between 4 parties, 1 survived at one buddy, I managed to have the other one survive..most didnt make it into the containers, the ones that did, about 4 + the 2, 4 that made it into containers, rose up, then gave up, and died for no reason whatsoever..2 that survived were a bit slow..

now, I am the optimist, and, in my opinion, one is all it takes..this baby will cover all of the entire state of colorado in less then a year..I am more then happy to spread it around, I am not one of them 'gotta keep it to myself' kinda dudes..I can personally vouch for starting a spread of kali kush, kali mist, debantu blueberry, and man I sincerly, sincerely apologize for introducing the new york diesel to the state, unfortunately, once something starts, its hard to stop it..new york diesel should have been called new york giants, and that would only apply if your not a fan of the new york giants..

the voodoo is going to be a mother, and, even though its just a tad slower then it's new friends, it does have an amazing structure to it..and from the photos on this link:

http://forum.grasscity.com/advanced-...eeks-left.html

I just cant wait to see it in action! ( and a quick side note, notice how this grower snaps a photo of his 'food', thats going the extra step, shows he has some pride in his work, kudos to this grower! )

I don't blame the shop, but I think the place they came from spends more time and money printing out those pretty little packages then they do into proper care of the seeds..

ok, it is possible, maybe the shop mishandled them, and yes, I believe they had mentioned they would make it up to us, but still, its the principle..

if you buy something from the grocery store, and you dont like it, the blame falls upon the maker of the product in your mind, so, if the people putting out the seeds cant ensure that the shops store them properly, then it would still be thier fault..

and, in my mind, I cant figure out who would have more to gain by storing them properly, but I can only imagine the shop would do whatever they could to ensure they were safe, as fear of a bad rep..

on the other hand, the seed company should feel the same way, but if they are hiring lots of people to help out, it's possible something went wrong in the business model..

my guess, they were heated up way to much..it's california, it's hot..I graduated high school in 1988, I saved seeds from the get go, and grew them many, many years later, and man, some of them, not most, but some were just incredible, and I have never had more then one grower state 'it came up, then died' with the same batch of seeds, and now you, and me, and my buddies, thats a pack of compalints..

personally, I hate seeds, I mess with em to much, I have killed hundreds of seeds in my time, but I was not alone, one of the growers does not do clones, have some stigmatism or something, he a seed pro, but lost 10..how I managed to get one was luck, once it was alive, I am all about love, so we bonded quickly..

but, overall I am grateful for the one ( doubt the other one will survive, kind of ended up in foster care, and was adopted by somone who shouldnt really raise kids ), I will turn one into 50 and those will turn into hundreds more, and they will spread like a weed ( for those of you who think clones get old quick, or maybe you dont like clones period, you need to get a clue, kali kush been going on for years now and still cant find a decent competitor in colorado )..so, I hereby say to colorado, purple voodoo, coming soon..

I have a question, but ya know what, I think its best if I look for it in the forums or post a new thread..cya!

JustMary

Re: purple voodoo germination problem

Sorry for taking so long, missed the photos for the first round, but I to agree, the Purple Voodoo, even with the seed problems I had, turned out to pretty dang nice!

I am not even a purple flavor fan, but this one is just so pleasant, and it clones stronger then any others I have had, really grows like a banshee! I didnt have it cold enough to turn purple, but is was really pretty anyway.

Kind of stays short, but if you grow it a little longer in the veg cycle, it reaches a point at about 3-4 feet where it suddenly begins producing the much bigger leaves, trust me, well worth the extra time in the veg stage, will update with photos soon!!
